Location: Houston, Texas | I can't give you a suggested clearance for Breadwinners per se, but in general, if the pickups are too close to the strings, the magnets will play havoc with tone by dampening the vibration of the strings.
Since the strength of the magnetic field is inversely proportional to the distance squared, a little bit of difference in pickup heigth can have a big influence on the dampening effect.
I recommend at least 1/8" clearance when the strings are depressed at the 21st or 22nd fret. This is basically from my own experience, but it will be interesting to see what others have to say about this. |

Somewhere between a Big-Red-One and a Skosh...
Otherwise known as crack and a half, a Smidgeon (the thickness of a Pidgeon on a Highway), a Taint or a Hint of Daylight with a little room for dew.
If the strings are heavy go for less but an 1/8 inch on the Bridge pup is generally dinkum. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | push the strings down at the last fret. Should be about 2/32" from the bottom of the string to the top of the pickup. You could drop the front one a wee more. For stronger magnets lower further, for pickups with the magnet on the bottom (UK2) you can go higher.
Hope that helps AJ, anything else drop me a line.
Cheers Mate. |
