Joined: January 2003 Posts: 92 Location: San Francisco, CA | I'm seeing new CL2079LX-5's being offered on eBay for around $1300. That seems really low to me. Is there any problem with this model? Does the contoured back really work from a comfort standpoint? Does the contoured back somehow affect the tone negatively? I would only be playing one of these plugged in. Is there any problem with the plugged in tone? Thanks for your insights! 6

FRG can be a great buy since you do get the 5 year warranty. The downside is you may find a minor cosmetic blemish on the FRG, or it may have been repaired. With the warranty you should feel secure about the structure and function of the guitar. The contour bowl has a super sound. It feels similar to a square box, though not exactly the same. Very comfortable for most people, though a few don't like it. Mostly the super skinny people are the ones who seem to not like it so much. I love my contour bowl. Be sure to call Al for a competitive price and great service.

It sounds great and is very comfortable to play. The craftmanship is outstanding on them, and I think they are very comfortable to play. I considered selling mine a few times when I wanted some extra money, but I started playing it and changed my mind, I am afraid I am a bit notorious for doing that. ;) Willa

Contour bowls and OP-Pro Studio preamps make for the best gigging acoustics on the market at any price (in my humble, yet accurate, opinion). I am also a big fan of what LX bracing does to the sound of Ovations. I was falling out of love with O's until I picked up a 1778LX and played it. I loved the balance and tone of that guitar. Took it home and kept it, until I got the 07C. Once I got a taste of that contour bowl...

I also have a preference for A-bracing with traditional soundhole O's. But as I said, it's my preference; others obviously feel differently. Still, I don't dislike the C-bowl either. They are marvelous guitars. Find what works for you and run with it.
