Gift shops, arcade, specialty shops, hit Rascals if you like taffy, they've got most every flavor you could think of. Seaside Aquarium (feed the seals!) There's also the Seaside Factory outlet mall and the LARGEST SITKA SPRUCE TREE. If you come in on hwy 26 MAKE SURE you stop at the Camp 18 restaurant and museum. Come hungry, the food is great and the portions Paul Bunyan sized. Can you tell I've been to Seaside before?

Ice Cream at the Tillamook cheese factory. http://www.tillamookcheese.com/ Also just south of Seaside is the town of Cannon Beach, with plenty of local arts and crafts, and a beach with a great tidepool area. And it just gets better as you go south.

I think the more artsy-fartsy stuff, & "slower pace", is further south. I really prefer Lincoln City/Depoe Bay/Newport area. Check out the old blimp hangers, south of Tillamook, if possible.

They used to serve a good chowder, but now they make it in huge batches and the quality has suffered accordingly. It was good 20 years ago. Now it's just average food in a noisy atmosphere. You want good clam chowder, try either the Wildflower Grill or the Blackfish Cafe , both in Lincoln City. The Pelican Pub a few miles north of Lincoln City has great food (including chowder) and brews that have won awards worldwide.

This picture reminds of the lines in Tupelo Honey: You can't stop us, on this road to freedom. You can't stop us for our eyes they see... Men of insight, men in Granite Knights in armor bent on chivalry And here is the Official Unofficial Stick-Your-Chewing-Gum-Hre-Post in seaside! A little known site! And last but not least... one of Tony Calman's few surviving Target Kites... Thanks!
