I've been scouring the net for a replacement gold tuner button and I'll be ... if I can find the right one.

Here's a pic:

There are a world of them out there, but I have a feeling the right one to look for could be a Schaller Mini tuner button?
Like these in the set here (last item):
http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/tuners_schallerbuttons.htm

But then I wonder if Schallers would in fact fit, and if the gold will match the gold of the tuners (I think Gotoh has more of a satin paler gold look). Or wait, do I need a large schaller? Or a ping? ARGH!

ANy tips?

I've looked at Paul Templeman's custom ones, and they might be an option in the end...

Thanks!

Thanks Paul, I'm in the process of considering the joys of full tuner replacement or just the one button.
Hmmm. I'll send you a PM anyway.

Go full tuner replacement, 18:1 and locking. You won't be disappointed with the performance though you may have to drill new screw holes.

Ah that's what I was trying to avoid. I can't imagine filling the old ones would be totally unnoticeable, and would end up being one of those little things that irk me for the rest of my days.

Templeman has some real nice replacement buttons in a variety of material ... walnut, ebony, tortoise, rosewood, grained ivoroid, real mother-of-pearl, and more. Get a hold of him and check them out. Top quality and excellent fit for the M6.

Jeremy, go for the buttons - the body of the tuner itself will probably handle a polish without losing the gold coating, as the bit that gets corroded is likely to be the bit people touch all the time. With the tuner buttons, go for a wooden one that will match one of the woods in the neck (Paul can advise on that) or else go for a pearloid type one, such as used in the Custom Legend.

Those perloid ones are nice. I'll have to take some good pics of the neck/headstock and get a matching wood colour - the walnut wouldn't quite make it I think but it seems the guy can work magic and maybe I can find a match. Those customs are really beaut.

Hey Jeremiah. Have any of the other Aussies invited you to join the Downunder group on the OFC sister site?

Downunder group

It might not currently be called 'Downunder' as a few of us are having fun playing with the name of the group. But it will revert back to 'Downunder' any day now.

You'll have to join the OFC Ning site again as its a completely different site to the 'proper' OFC.

A couple of the guys are in Sydney too.

Come on over.

Beauty I'm there!
Feel a bit of a fraud, seeing as my Ovation is in the States until further notices, but what the heck, I can pretend :p

Mine are in Australia - and I'm not.

I should have my '05 in just over 4 weeks though as the family is coming to visit.

Anyway, it's not the ownership of Ovations that this place is all about. It's the appreciation of them.

Hey Jeremiah... Which guitar are you talking about for the tuner buttons? I think I've purchased almost every kind from Templeman for various guitars, and there's a big difference on how each one will look on certain models. Perhaps we should post some pics of some of our various headstock/button combinations to help out? (... I personally favor the amber ones with a woody guitar, tortise for tortise-trimmed guitars, mother-of-pearl(abalone) for guitars that are trimmed with the same. Ebony looks really good on predominantly black guitars, but they also look good on some wood-topped guitars...yada-yada)

Now they are some sweet looked headstock button combos. Nice photos too bvince! Is that what the result of photographing Ovations in the wild is? Undomesticated, running free with the wind through their strings….

Anyway, she’s a 79 legend and the wood doesn’t seem to match anything Paul has listed at the moment. Having said that I’m going to have a good look at it when I get hold of the guitar and no doubt obsess over which tuner button would best. Something else to incite an exasperated shake of the head, sigh and muttering from the wife as she walks away...

Yep, on a Legend of that vintage I would go with either grained Ivoroid, which matches the neck and body binding quite closely, or Walnut which matches the bridge and headstock overlay

Not to take away anything from Paul (I've bought quite a few sets of buttons from him, including the grained ivoroid, rosewood, walnut and genuine MOP), but Al also has buttons in a number of different materials that Paul doesn't offer. Just another option...

Hmmmm? Didn't know that. I'm still looking for a set of Cobalt Blue Buttons.
