I am expecting delivery in a few days of a Tenor Guitar.

From what I've read the standard tuning is CGDA and an alternate tuning is GDAE.

Any advantages/disadvantages to either tuning?

Conceptually, GDAE is like backwards bass strings, like a violin or mandolin.

I have an A tuned guitar and it uses GCEA on the high strings but you might like ADGC. Also, try DGBE. I don't know if those will work, but it's from the guitar.

Thanks for the input. Initially I will probably try the standard CGDA but since I can play a little mandolin I will also use the GDAE.
