Location: Newington, CT | First the comment: "I love this song but really hate the sound of that ovation." It came from some guy who watched and listened to the video in the link below. If you listen, I think you'll wonder also what possessed the guy to make the comment. However, trying to keep an open mind, I was wondering what other guitar could pull off the sound and the song. Couldn't think of one off the top of my head.
JMHO: the guitar's sound is crisp, clear, ringing, deep, resonant, round, loud, precise, achingly articulate and REALLY clean. The guitarist is highly skilled to be able to pull all that out of the guitar. He's clearly having a great time.
What IS that guitar!?!?! And what wonderful recording equipment to be able to take that sound and reproduce it so beautifully! And, what's the thing hanging off the headstock?

Looks like the same recording session, same guitarist and same guitar. Different song, though. And the comment is equally bizarre, by someone with a different youtube name. Probably the same guy.
First the comment: "it sounds good, but I HATE ovation. they are quite overpriced and unreliable."
Uhhhhhhhhhhh...whuh? Unreliable? Overpriced? What planet does THIS guy live on?!?!

I am sure that the ONLY guitar worth having in the one that they own.
and besides, they are not really hearing the ovation but the amp that Eric is playing through. |

Location: Flahdaw | I've heard this "Low C" before. I really like it but wish he'd slow it down. Get a little more smokey/bluesy with it....give it a little feeling. Is it like he's trying to prove how fast he can move his hands? |

I gotta sorta agree on the sound. I don't like the way that Ovation sounds either, but I think it is the way it is processed and/or eq'd (or lack thereof).
That's no reflection on the guy's actual talent (it's obviously there). He can play, but the sound quality coming from the guitar could be a lot better.
I thought this one was pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYhvVdjdjSo. Even if it is a Taylor, it sounds better than those Ovations. Nice rendition of a classic song ... in a DMB kinda way. Better recording all the way around.

Location: Newington, CT | Hmmmm..I REALLY liked the sound of the Ovation over the sound of the Taylor. The Taylor was, nontheless, pretty darned good, and playing a nice song very well. However, the Ovation blew me away.

Skinny rosette, no TRC, bound neck, dots and diamonds on the 12th fret.
The Taylor do have a bit of bass to it, but the Ovation has a full spectrum of sound.
Anybody who believes that an Ovation is undependable is talking out his butt. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I've seen Eric Turbull before, and he IS a great player and very funny (: The problem with that recording is the mix (or lack thereof) I highly doubt that the guitar is the problem. The highs and mids are drowned out by the bass. An Op Pro Studio would fix all that. |

And about the capos... As long as I don't have to sing to the song I don't need one. But there are certain keys that I can't (and never will can) sing without this little helper ;) |
