Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5567 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Fed-Ex delivered the OM-28V today that I bought from Tuppy...and it is MINT! Very nice guitar: Here are some first impressions: it took a minute or two to get used to the guitar and figure out how best to play it...What I mean is that I found that it's all in the attack and finesse of the pick to get the volume and sound that you're looking for. The OM is a very responsive guitar with plenty of voice and volume...I'm used to the D-28 which is a real cannon...but the OM, while a bit softer in volume, is equally beautiful in tone, sustain, and the overall quality of sound: again it's all in the way you play it: and it's not difficult to figure out. Aesthetically, the guitar is gorgeous: it looks just like a pre/post war vintage Martin: Squared peg head; top herringbone binding and correct period decal; Correct vintage back stripe; nice aged toner on a beautiful Sitka top; very nicely quarter sawn straight grained Indian Rosewood; ivoroid body binding and heel cap; and vintage Martin open back tuners...I would have liked the original vintage feel of a gloss finished neck but Martin didn't offer that in this model and Dave sold it before having time to do that...lol. All together, this is a truly wonderful guitar. Shipped in a Taylor shipping carton: the molded plastic neck holder is a great idea: much better than cardboard or peanuts...(ok peanut gallery, give it a break...lol) I plan to change the strings and then I'll take a picture or two...I'll post one of Dave's for now. All in all, a big thanks to Dave for working this out and for taking such fine care of the instrument: The man is passionate about his guitars: if you buy one of his, you're getting a pristine instrument! Thanks again Dave! ;) Photo: ![]()

I cannot begin to describe the sound: all I had available was a new set of D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ26 Custom Lights...I usually use those on the Ovations...But the sound is TDF! I like the .11-.52 diam. as it lets me get a good feel for the neck and strings no matter what style I'm playing at the time...Just Fantastic. The overtones and harmonic's are unreal...I really like it! I'm going to take it over to Wayne Henderson's next week...Any doubt about whether Martin can still make guitars is answered in this one...They haven't missed a step.

I couldn't describe the sound to you, so just waited for you to find out yourself. Isn't it wonderful? For those wondering "why would Witko jettison such a nice guitar", well I had two of them. The 28 all vintage, and the 42 all gloss and bling. Could only keep one. If I had to swear on a stack of comic books, I'd probably say the 28 sounded a tad better. But I just couldn't say no to the 42. Congratulations Mike and enjoy it. That guitar's got some good mojo. Personal opinion, Martin get's a lot of recognition for their dreads, and I guess the vintage D28 is sorta the defacto legend. But honestly, to me I think their OM guitars are the stars of the line. All the way down to the bottom models and all the way up to the top. The 18, 28 and 42 are really in the sweetspot for price/performance and the attention to detail is really stunning. Take a look up close sometime at the mitre cuts of the abalone or the fit of the inlays. I challenge you to find one drop of glue visible inside Mike's guitar. Martin takes a lot of shit on this board, but the really DO make some nice stuff and Mike's got a few to prove it. Onwards, Dave
