Joined: July 2004 Posts: 194 | I currently play a 1768-C I bought new in '93. We have a foreign exchange student living with us and they wish to purchase a used acoustic/electric guitar. They seem to have a natural ability to play, so my thought is to acquire a good used instrument. I'm thinking an older Balladeer ('70s-'80s) in the 200 dollar range. Can those be had, or am I way off and completely out of touch with reality? Another idea was maybe a MOB47? What do you all recommend? TIA, Les

I have been sorta quiet. ...Les

The action on mine is not "Electric Guitar Low" with all the shims taken out... BUT! I got mine brand-spankin'-new for $208... So I ain't gonna bitch. (just checked, the string height is just over two pennies, but way less than three cents) Your chances of finding a $200 CC54 are much better than finding a good old Balladeer for $200... As to the playability of the CC54i? It is an alright guitar. Remember... You are getting a $300 Preamp Module with a Free guitar attached! The time to buy one was last week during the sales... But the people that I bought mine from on eBay still have some. I got one of the first ones that they sold, they have since raised the price, or added shipping. Reputable online store have them for less that $250... And you could ask Al if he still has some of his left. If not, there are a bunch on Da Bay at various prices.

I played one at the store,....not too stinky for that kinda money, even at $200 plus. The preamp thing is pretty cool. Nut is too narrow for my tastes.

I reckon I'm old school (I'm definitely an old fart) but I just really like those old New Hartford guitars. If you know of someone that wishes to part with an old roundback, have them send me a PM. I'll check Da Bay as well. Thanks, Les

We bought two of them and although the second doesn't sound as good as the first (Chinese quality control.... something of an oxymoron, I guess?), this guitar doesn't sound or play cheap at all. Soundwise, I would compare it favourably to almost any of the O's costing three times as much. Very satified with it!! Highly recommended!!

But ya know.....it plays really nice. Sounds really good. The Fishman PU works great. It's on the side, not inside. Serial number says it's an '05. 280 bucks. I think I did ok. ....Les
