In consideration of my next "O"
I thought I may like an 1861 LX.
Played one a few times a week or so ago at Elderly. I origianlly thought I may like that 2071 contour but just didn't care for it as much.
Read some of the reviews doing searches here and people that had them seemed happy.
Maybe its just the comfort of the shallow bowl & I don't need that much sound of the deeper bowls but before I decide for sure I want to try something mid-depth.

Anyways I have 2 questions.

1) The 1861 LX Balladeer I was looking at was the Cherry Cherryburst, while the color was real nice the overall finish was not. You could see & feel the grain of the wood in the finish topcoat/clearcoat. Even my older Clebrity is as smooth as glass, so is this typical or did I just see a bad one ?

2) Why so much difference in price ?
some examples (maybe not the best place but all over the place)

The new finish is very thin and you can see the grain. It's normal and is supposed to allow to top to vibrate better.

Mid-depth bowl O's sound better un-plugged. See if you can try a 1771LX to compare with the 1861LX. As you alrealy know shallow bowls are more comfortable to play.

For prices on a new Ovation, call Al.
