Ran across a 1681-S with a 2 digit SN.

Doesn't jive with the spreadsheets on the site here. Plays pretty nice, a bit out of my price range but I might consider it if it's a good deal... under a grand.

Any thoughts on why an Adamas II would have a 2 digit serial number?

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess it was a special order (S). Is there anything you see that makes it unique form the std 1681 specs? Wide neck perhaps?

Sometimes the serial number get screwy. My UTE has a ovation serial number. Factory mistake according to the guru.

Is it black? Maybe it's really a 1681-5 and someone's reading it slightly wrong? And, what someone thinks is a two digit s/n may be looking at the fundamental frequency, if they did that to the II's. Is it by chance around 93? I'm just thinking out loud here ...

Could be a 1681-5. Looking through the little holes among the leaves is tricky for old eyes like mine. The SN was in the middle of the inner label, just under the part number. Same place as on my Ultra.

Probably ought go back and take a picture of it,no?

Oh. Not quite 93 but close, 87.

It's the ff#. Try looking on the back of the headstock for the serial.

FF# = fundamental frequency of the guitar.

Thanks to all. The guitar sounds nice but is very 'worn'. It is that black fiber top; played hard, put away wet if ya know what I mean.

Decisions, decisions. i am sure all of you have gone through this.

Is it by chance the one at Guitar Showcase? If not, go take a look at that one.

of course it's that one. I am still thinking...

My '85 Ultra really can't be set up correctly, so I am still looking for a good first guitar.
So far, the nicest I have found is a nice new Tak at GS. Running through my set of learned chords, it is the one that feels right and makes the chords sound clean. Not giving up on the Ultra though, it looks good and someday I will figure out how to make it sing.
