Looks like they have arrived: 2079AX

It says country of manufacture is USA but I think that might be a mistake. I though AX meant asian made.

Nope... That is a real Korean Legend.

I mentioned that over in this thread...

They say a couple of places that it is a USA guitar, but how can that be with the AX designation AND at that price point?

I missed your post OMA, sorry about that. It was posted really early and I was still in bed. Just remember, the early worm gets eaten.

No LX TRC... Not American.

Not-very-slowly Fender is turning Ovation into an import guitar.
Just like it did with Fender itself.

Remember, the people that bought the Fender Name are investors, not Musicians or Luthiers.

(Yes, the people that make the guitars love guitars...
But the people that make the decisions only love Money)

The guy that runs Fender is a guitar guy. Larry Thomas. Been in the guitar business over 40 years. And the people who bought the Fender business BACK from corporate interests 25 years ago were about the instruments. They opened a factory in California and brought back production that was being done in Asia. They took advantage of NAFTA and increased their production by opening a factory just over the border in Ensenada, Baja California. Fender has also saved several American guitar icons that would have gone out of business and continue to see them produced in America. There are still a LOT of Fender guitars made in the US, and a TON more made less than a hundred miles away. Fender has a comparatively huge custom shop in Corona California. If the "investors" that you so disdain did not come in, there would probably be no Fender today at all, no Guild, no Charvel, no Jackson, no Gretsch, no American jobs and factories, and no contribution back to the community through foundations and outreach (which Fender does a shitload of). Or maybe they'd be just a name on a headstock on a Chinese guitar. I think you are way off base here, OMA. I do not think you actually know who and what Fender is all about. Save your broad brush painting for your guitars and political diatribes. The good people at Fender do not deserve to be smeared like this.

Apologies Bobbo,
No insult meant to Larry... I know that he has been working at Guitar Center since the 70's.
And he does not make every decision, he has only been CEO for a few months.
And I already said that I appreciate the Workers making guitars Worldwide!
(I have had so many great Indonesian and Korean guitars... Parkers and Morgan Monroe and BCR's)

But somehow shipping all manufacture of anything costing less than a thousand bucks overseas...
Well, that kinda destroys the "Workingman's Guitar" image.
Now I understand that Professional Gigging Musicians are Working Men and Women.
But people who don't Play for a living might not understand spending $1,700+ for a guitar.
(Chuck Berry said that he wrote his $5,000 guitar off on his taxes as a business expense and got the $5K back!)
But if you can only Custom Order a USO...
Well, for Most of America that makes Ovation an import guitar.
Cuz they ain't gonna be seeing any USA Ovations in their Local Shop.
They will be seeing AX's and Celebrity's.

And yeah you can get a Custom Strat from Corona...
But most players will get a GOOD used one before they will give $7,000 for a strategically reliced USA Fender.
And that is what is happening to Ovation.
Cuz all reasonably priced, over-the-counter Ovations will be made in Asia.

So I will be buying my Old Ovations off of d'Bay.
Luckily, I did get to buy a coupla new USO's before the Party ended.

Are these the same quality material and specs as the ones they used to make here? this is a low price for a custom legend. can the labor costs really cut the price by more than half?

Never seen one in person so I really don't know. Like most ovation products, no matter where it is made it's probably a decent level of quality at that particular price point.

I think materials are not the issue - plastic is plastic, same electronics, same hardware, etc. The question might be, can the asian factory actually put it together in to a nicely playing guitar. My bet is YES.

Keep in mind the price point, and align your expectations accordingly.

I purchased 2 of these for Christmas presents (not from this retailer) and am amazed at how well they sound (acoustically and plugged in) and how beautifully they play. Yes they are made in Korea, but the workmanship is excellent. Beautiful bursts, inlaid epaulets and awesome hard cases with pockets and and packsack straps (Ovatio zero gravity) each for about $460 plus shipping. They are much better sounding than anything I tried in this price range locally.
