Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | My first good electric guitar was a 1967 Gibson SG Special which I traded for a Fender Villager Acoustic 12 several years later (which I still have)...I really liked that guitar and of course visions of the Who's Pete Townshend at Woodstock and The Doors Robby Krieger with "my guitar" certainly impressed me. I came to regret parting with my SG and even though I have owned several other SG models in the years since, I always maintained a search for "that guitar". No more: With the help of a very good friend, I have been able to become the new owner of a "Mint" 1963 SG Special and a equally mint 1963 Gibson Skylark amp. Mint is such an overused term but for a guitar from the early 60's: well just look at the pic's: The finish is incredible: not even the slightest ding, mark, bump, or scratch: not a craze or a blemish...It is completely original and it is immaculate...so is the Skylark Amp which has the rare tremolo circuit...The case is the original Faux Alligator chipboard w/ a '63 Mel Bay guitar course inside...
Here are several pic's: it should be here next week and I'll take detailed photos when it arrives...

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Thanks Mike: but I'm afraid you'll be waiting a long time...and there is quite a line ahead of you already...
P-90's are cool...and you can see a '61 and '62 hanging between a white SG Jr. and a '61 SG/Les Paul Standard in the middle row of this pic:

I'm excited for you. Yet another thread about someone reconnecting with guitars from the past. Very cool.

Location: New Thermopylae | TBH, what amazes me most is the intact Gibson logo on that 47 year old amp. Those logos are very, very fragile. When was the last time you saw a complete logo on a Skylark amp?
Congratulations on an extra nice closet pair! |

Smokey, welcome to the club...thanks, I like them as well...
ML: I agree: This is the most original and mint condition Skylark I have ever seen...do a search and look at the youtube examples...none are as nice...and these have a cool vintage sound that for a simple circuit has a nice saturation when it is driven...The P90's should do that nicely! I'm excited! |
