Joined: September 2005 Posts: 3619 Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I am thinking that I would some day like to aquire a '79 Collector's (When the fund is back up to speed:). I have only played one parlor guitar, and that was the recent Takamine New Yorker(I believe that was what it was called) How is the tone and volume with that shallower bowl? I am guessing that with the slothead and being a 12-fretter, that it would put out sound pretty nicely.?? Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

It's not boomy, but mine has an ethereal quality to the sound that makes it stand out. I know this isn't possible, but I'd love to have an Adamas with this body, because the strings on mine sound very, very balanced to begin with. A handlaid bowl and textured top would make for one amazing, killer little guitar. (Come on, "Mom," can't I have just one?? ;) ) As you can guess, I love mine; Joisey Goil #2 got one, too, because she liked mine so much. --Karen

They are great little guitars. Anyway, the recordings were pretty primitive: Basically I set my H4 Zoom recorder on the desk in front of me and played the songs. I haven't modified the recordings in any way other than bumping the volume a little. (You may still have to turn your speakers up a tad. This was one of my first attempts at recording, and the levels were set way too low.) But hopefully it will give some idea of the sound it can make. It was strung with silk-n-steel strings, and tuned to open-D. I am finger-picking and plucking with the fleshy edge of my fingers, but even so you can hear exactly what Karen mentions; it's very clear and sweet sounding acoustically. And much like Karen, I hope to have a custom one built some day. (Of course, I need to buy a winning lottery ticket first.) The Water Is Wide Caledonia Also, a guy has been advertising one on the NYC Craig's List for over a year. He wants about $800 if I remember right, and it's worth every penny if it's in good shape. With patience and a little luck, you may even find one for less. Good luck! :)
