I was working on my pedal board last night and went to test things out. I grabbed my UKII and as I was playing I noticed a crack at the neck/headstock area, then noticed it went right up to under the bass E tuner and beyond. I then applied a slight bit of pressure to the top of the headstock, and sure enouh the crack widened.

It's busted. My first guitar that I bought when I was 15. My most valued possesion that's lasted with me through thick and thin is now fatally damaged.

:(

No possibility of repair whatsoever?

There've recently been some rather impressive stories on this board of resurrecting what looked like fatally broken guitars, to nearly good as new!

KSDaddy comes to mind...

Original owner? Warranty? More than likely not, but something that dear to you needs to be rehabbed. Have you checked with Mother?

Yes I'm the original owner. I bought it in Alameda, CA at Starland Music Center. There's no way I'd have the original receipt though.

I have a call into JB

Sorry, Damon. Lateral (cross grain) crack, or along the grain? Either way, it can be repaired. Mother fixed a long grain crack running thru a tuner screw hole on an old 1869 of mine, never would have known it was there when they got done with it.

Going against my nature to be a glass half full type of guy, I predict this will be another one of those Mothership Miracle stories by the time it's over. Let me know if you need a loaner in the meantime.

If you sent in your warranty card way back then, it should be registered to you… Otherwise, do you have photos of yourself playing it back then and throughout the years? That might help document that you are the original owner? (Unless you haven't aged since you were 15.) ;)

Last night after I discovered it, Sara immediately jumped online to try and find other UKIIs that might be out there.

After searching for roughly 30 minutes she realized that a good 40% of what's out there on the web is from me advocating them. She even found posts from other sites/people linking to videos of mine using the UKII.

The most popular by far is the No More Tears one. Almost 4000 hits now.

I'm feeling better after talking with John. We'll get her back up and running.

I was close to tears last night though.

No, no, no, no... appreciate your faith but I'm just a hack you met on the Internet, remember!

You don't just want it fixed, you want it really fixed! JB was the right way to go!

My condolances at your heartbreak and my assurance that it will get better.

Charming humility, to be sure. Off to see The Wizards is the way to go, though.

Sorry to hear about the UKII Damon. I feel your pain. I'm sure the Mothership will make it right. Good luck!

They will take care of it. It may have a slight wound, but that will just add to the character and the story for the next 30+ years of rock'n..

So, what's the status of your UKII Damon, is she recuperating at the spa?
