It works surprisingly well, not a pure acoustic sound by any means, but it's a sound I like The only thing is, there's a lot of 'hiss'. Using the standard Windows control panel I can click a 'noise suppression' option (from memory, am not at that computer at present) which works but also cuts the treble end of the signal (like the old Dolby noise reduction on cassette players) and the pickup is rather bass-y anyway Any ideas for addressing this? I should add that can't access the Ning site for the time being.

Any point in getting one of these ?http://www.amazon.co.uk/IK-MULTIMEDIA-Multimedia-StealthPlug/dp/B000KFZ7T4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1291216102&sr=1-3

The least expensive usable one is this one , although this one is more versatile. You can find the latter ones used on eBay for much cheaper than new. Beware, though; once you start you get hooked, and wind up buying more and better at considerable expense ;)

I have a question on that tascam interface. What I'd like to do is just put up a mic, record track 1, my guitar and vocals, than track 2, backing vocals and bass, then track 3, lead guitar, can I put those into the computer, and mix them? Cause at $70, that's a pretty good deal, and it would end my days of analog.

Since it's actual sound, you can get rid of it with more expensive options, but I gather you're trying to stay inexpensive. It might actually be best to record somewhere distant from the computer, where ambient noise is minimized.

You just need some DAW software to actually record. REAPER is a good one that is essentially free to use but they ask you buy it if you continue using it for over 2-3 months. Even then it is only about $40-60 and a real bargain for what you get.

Garageband does a pretty passable job if you have a Mac. Then there are packages which you have to pay for, such as Guitar Tracks Pro which I use, which will run $100ish on up to $500 or more. Try one of the freebies, they should be fine for what you described.

Interestingly, plugging in my 1615 directly to the sound card works perfectly. The level is about right, not much distortion etc. Might just need a preamp for the magnetic pickup

My music gear wish list this year is: volume pedal, looper then the tascam interface. Anyone interested in an old school 4 track? It works. I'll write up an ad an put in the for sale section.
