Location: Utah | Pez, I don't know specifically about this event. However, I would caution this woman to be extrememly careful about signing any kind of contract. Not knowing what you're doing can end up costing big big bucks down the road.
One of my nieces is/was a professional model. She had "the look" and attended a show similar to the one you're asking about. She was courted by all the top agencies, and eventually signed with the top name agency. My sister was smart enough to get a very good lawyer before signing anything for her daughter, who was 17 at the time. Many of the agencies are not what they seem, meaning that they really aren't well connected and they are more of a scam than anything. Even though she was signed through a top agency, my niece ended up in a very bad situation overseas on a job which required significant money to literally ransom her from. The devil is in the details of the contracts!
If your friend goes, she should think of this as auditioning for managers, and she should be educated about all that stuff before she goes. Temp recommended an excellent book to me for my daughter, "All You Need to Know About the Music Business" by Passman. Your friend should read this or something equivalent before she goes or signs anything. |

Location: Orlando, FL | The infamous central Florida sleezebag Lou Pearlman used to do this in Orlando a couple of times a year.
Perlman was the "brains" behind insync, the backstreet boys, 98 degrees and some other big teenage boy bands.
These events were a big rip-off. A few people may have gotten something out of it but for the vast majority - nada. I am pretty sure they paid to be a part of the events. At any rate they were huge moneymakers for Pearlman.
Pearlman is in jail now serving a big sentence.
Maybe this one is different, do plenty of research! Nothing is never that easy, even for extremely talented people. |
