Joined: September 2009 Posts: 144 Location: SW Washington | this picture is of the artwork one of my students did for me on my iDea and I need to know what kind of finish I should use for a clear coat to protect it. I am thinking about masking it and taking it to a body shop and having them shoot it while they are clear coating a car... any thoughts? Thanks, David

I even like it better than my LX Elite. It doesn't sound as good (at least unplugged) but I LOVE the way it feels in my hands and how it responds to me.

The only paint she used is the green on the bouts and around the sound holes, the rest is pencil. I do know she attempted using acrylic paint on the bouts but it wouldn't adhere so she had to go to something else but I don't recall what. A week or two ago I posted here asking for info about what kind of finish was on the guitar before I gave it to her to work on, but got no replies. I know my LX Elite has a polyester finish and I suspect this does too but don't know. I have some high quality pour-on 2-part polyester resin here, but would rather have someone shoot a couple thin coats on it.

That will help that and the clear coat stick. 2. Call the factory and ask them what you should use. 860-379-7575. My first thought is lacquer but that might not be the best for adhesion. 3. Kim and John are great about answering questions. Why don't people ask them? Instead they ask here and get a variety of answers that may or may not include the right one.

My guess is that multiple thin layers of an Acrylic Clear Coat will cover and protect as long as you are not trying to make a thick clear Gloss finish. For the picking area use some of the clear plastic film that clings and is disposable. Self Adhesive Mylar

Joined: September 2009 Posts: 144 Location: SW Washington | I'll talk to Kim and John this week. Thanks for the contact! I am thinking maybe stabilize it with a spray of some kind and then do the pour-on polyester over it? I'll see what the experts think before I decide tho. Thanks for all your input! Much appreciated!
