Joined: September 2002 Posts: 806 Location: Seymour, Tennessee | I was trolling the local Craigslist and saw an ad for a Deep Bowl Applause (an AA21)for $100 so I clicked on it out of curiosity & it showed a decent pic of it. It had been painted gloss black with the ghost blue fire-style airbrushing job. I called the guy just for kicks and he said that it wasn't for sale anymore, he had met with a prospective buyer & noticed the finish was cracked (he had dropped it a while back leaving a shallow scratch on it which he described in the ad). He said the guitar was no good, he thought the crack was through the wood (he wasn't familiar with the finish cracking business on these things). He said that he was just going to blow it up with M-80s so I told him I would be interested in it if he was just going to destroy it, hell I could make a lamp out of it or just hang it in my Boy's room for decoration, the paint job looked pretty cool. He said I could have it for $20. I met him and it actually looked pretty good. It had the finish crack not bad-bad, & a scratch I think I can buff out. I gave him the $20, took it home tuned it, & it plays and sounds just fine. I'm going to pop the strings off of it, spread a little wood glue on it from the inside just to make sure it is not indeed a wood crack, buff it out, & play it outside when the weather prohibits me playing my nice ones. I'll take some pics later. So anyway, now I'm company with KSDaddy & the other Applause owners her, have a decent sounding/playing guitar, & got it for a song. I was curious however, if there was anyway to figure out the manufacture date on this thing, the serial number is 1751993. Does this mean it was built in 93'? I figured somebody here would know.

Somebody actually did a decent paint job on this one though. If you look at the last pic, you can see the worst scratch the best, it's on the left side looking at it from the front bt it's realy light, you can't feel it so I think it'll buff out. In the 3rd pic yo,u can just make out the semi-circular finish crack, it goes from aboout the middle of the bottom of the bridge out to the left to the edge. I say I stole this guitar at $20. Whatchoo guys think? It sounds good too, not top-of-the-line Adamas sound but it does have a deep bowl and it really does sound pretty decent.
