Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Yeah, Beal, you're right. I made a small alteration. Maybe, I ought to inlay some veneer that echoes the epaulets on the upper bout, for aesthetic balance. Structural integrity was a primary concern, with those 8 heavier strings (pairs of .074-.048-.035-.026)
I'm open to input here. I haven't decided how I'm going to electrify this critter yet, either (floating bridge design). Probably some type of soundboard sensor arrangement, piped out the backside. Can't really mess much with that tailpiece.

Now some kind of complementing eppaulet style overlay for between the strings and it will all fit. It doesn't have to be symetrical. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | AstroDan, it's partly camera angle, but I wanted the bass strings a bit closer anyway. It has a surprisingly good action on it, too. Playing the lower end rumbles-the-room pretty good, and the melody lines are carried better on the upper end.
So, Beal, are you talking an epaulet compliment, between the tuning machine shafts? I don't want anything, additionally, on the soundboard, right?
And, MWoody, as to interpretation, I think it has a real definite Southeast Alaska thing goin' on. That large epaulet could be an Orca, easily.
And, it was serendipitous, too. I never plan ahead. Makes SWMBO a bit crazy sometimes.

Maybe I oughta name this thing "Dali". Those peghead appliques kinda look like melting watches to me. |

I have a couple DiMarzio acoustic pickups which are ceramic disks that mount on the face...I use them for everything from violins to pianos and they work GREAT! you may be able to configure some sort of saddle to permanently mount one on the underside of the face if you have access to it. Oh, I have used one on a banjo once too, lol...come to think of it, I mounted one on an electric typewriter once to do a rhythm track for an 'industrial music' thing I was working on in the early 80's. That actually turned out kinda cool. |

Actually, I was thinkin' this gizmo might fit my needs. As to the nuances of sound quality & flexibility, Dimarzios might be "casting pearls before swine", in my case. Since the MondoMando has a trapdoor, this would be an easy installation, too.
