Location: Texas | I have a 75 and an 81 1624. My question is...It appears that the soundboards are a different type of wood...or is it just the difference in the stock they had at the time?
What I found is fairly consistent that they used Spruce, but the 75 looks quite a bit darker.
Additionally, I noticed they changed the sticker...other than the 1st and 2nd gen FET's, did Ovation change any thing else in the production of these guitars?
Just looking for some guidance here.
thanks in advance

Location: SoCal | It's definitely sitka spruce. Different batches will age differently. Also, a factor is how much the guitar has been out of it's case and exposed to the sun.
About the only thing that changed over the years on the 1624 is the preamp. The 81 probably has a stacked volume/tone control, the 75 just a single volume control. Probably..... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My 73 looked a little lighter than your 75. I'll bet yours spent more time out of the case. |

Thanks for the replies... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Moody's other statement about different pieces of wood really shows up on my K1111RI, where the middle plank is much darker than the outside 2. Looks like a racing stripe. |
