Hi, Folks.
I'm reposting this here for a friend of a friend.

Stolen instruments: priceless custom Blue Lion mountain dulcimer with polar bears on icebergs inlays on the fretboard, also a Santa Cruz FS guitar valued at $5500. Taken in a break-in at Connecticut musician Rob Brereton's home. Keep eyes open for someone trying to sell these on ebay, craigslist, or any other musical instrument resell site. Contact Rob at www.robertbrereton.com if you see these.

This is one police story I want to hear that includes lots of pepper spray, tazer use, dog bites, and severe bruising on the suspects body caused when he slipped on a banana peel.

Great news, Carol! It would be good to hear what transpired to bring about the happy ending...

I don't know about tasers and other assorted mayhem, but the guy certainly was clueless about fine instruments. The Blue Lion was a one-of-a-kind, with the polar bears being a pretty distinctive feature. The thief actually called Blue Lion with a description and serial # looking for information and to resell it. The owner (who also built this instrument and knows the owner personally) got his name and number, then called Rob to let him know what was going on. Rob gave this info to the Statie who was working the case.

There may be dogs, pepper spray and tazers here...I don't have all those details. Use your imagination if you like...

Anyway, the guy had boxes and boxes of items he had stolen during this and other break-ins. Some were Rob's family heirlooms which he will thankfully get back along with his dulcimer and guitar.

Definitely speaks to the value of a stolen instrument registry.
