Good Evening-

I am trying to buy my first Ovation and am having difficulty finding a source for new guitars. The local guitar shops seem to have been shouldered out of the way by Guitar Center and now my GC is emphasizing Ovations built "just for them" that do not seem to be discounted.

I would appreciate comments from members here about favorite suppliers and places with the best prices.

I am also open to buying used. I am specifically looking for a TX of some sort.

Thanks very much.

Hi Schooner,

Before we try and answer your question, where do you live?

My recommendation is Al, one of the moderators of this website. His store is primarily on-line, but he has as much or more inventory as any big retailer, can get anything regularly made by Ovation, and even some things they won't make for the general public. Last year, we learned that he was the No. 1 retailer for Adamas guitars. You might find a cheaper price now and then if some retailer is trying to dump a certain product, but I have always found his prices to be very reasonable and fair. He also ships worldwide. Check out others, but before you commit, give him a call.

Definitely call alpep. There are some online sellers who are ok, but you have to be very careful in reading their ads to be sure you understand exactly what they are selling and what comes with it. You might get lucky and find a USA made Ovation still in stock somewhere online. USA made will be either an LX or a T model, whereas the imports are AX or TX. Again, call Al first, not just because he is one of the owners of this forum, but because he has the best price and the best service you'll find.

Not knowing your budget, I would highly recommend taking a stroll through the "For Sale" section here. You will find quite a few guitars, most of them in excellent condition, in a wide range of prices.
