Hundreds of employees and invited guests gathered Saturday morning on the campus of Kaman Corp. in Bloomfield for a memorial service for company founder Charles H. Kaman, who died Jan. 31 at age 91.
Among the speakers at the service was U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District. The service featured music, generations of Kaman helicopters and a flyover in Charles Kaman's memory. Kaman was also co-founder of the Fidelco Guide Dog foundation.
Kaman, a helicopter pioneer, founded the company when he was 26. His varied career also included the designing Ovation guitars. Kaman, a guitarist who turned down an offer to join Tommy Dorsey's orchestra, designed the round-backed Ovation guitar based on his helicopter knowledge. |
