Saving up now for my first ever Ovation, and will be just about there in about 3 or 4 weeks!! I dearly want a USA made Elite, either 1778 or 1868 (shallow?) I have a weird question..I wonder if anyone's asked this!! (I have searched before asking) Ok, I own a Takamine EN10C, and the depth of the body, as I look down on it from standing, is 12 centimetres.... My question is, is a mid depth bowl a lot slimmer? or should I be looking at the shallow ones? anyone got any actual measurments? I find my Tak a bit wide when I'm standing, it annoys me at gigs. Does anyone have the SSB? would you say it loses anything at all when gigged? if it sounds as good as any other Ovation plugged in it could be the one, I'm not bothered about playing acoustic...got the Tak for that. Thanks if anyone has any comments :-)

There are 4 or 5 different depths. Keep searching through the old posts here and look at the Ovation archives and you should be able to answer your questions and several more that will come up. Opinions on bowl depths are like .... You know how that goes. There are great guitars in Spain. Maybe you should get a little flamenco style.

Guitars (as lots of other stuff) are a complete rip-off in Spain mate...hence ebay USA... Already have a little flamenco one too :-)) not much good for doing The Stones and Oasis at gis lol

I'm actually buying pretty blind too, as here where I live there are hardly any guitar shops, even the big ones in the bigger cities don't seem to stock Ovations, so I keep looking for any videos on the net to show how each of these sounds....not having much luck finding a video of the SSB tho :( Cheers for the help so far!

BUT, to qualify that somewhat, any difference is irrelevant in a medium to high volume band situation with a rhythm section when an SSB (or in my case Vipers) really come into their own. For solo or small ensemble work I much prefer the plugged-in sound of deepbowl guitars and I think the pay-off of a slightly lower feedback threshold is more than worth it.

Looking at the bowl size it looks like it would be more comfortable than my Tak for a standing 2 hour gig. Well, the sound speaks for itself! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYByRnMbExo I would love to find the same video but with a SSB to see if there are any differences...to MY ear :) Thanks for the support people. Ovation is coming my way SOOON!!
