The venue will provide a wireless mic but I'll need a separate system for an electric guitar. Looks like Shure has some options between $400 and $600. Sennheiser takes off from there. Anybody have any experience with or a recommendation for a wireless guitar system?

It's worked pretty damned good for me on stage, not to mention using it at home I can walk next door and still have a good strong signal with minimal latency. Really, I've never noticed any latency at all unless I'm next door, but that just might be the extra distance the sound has to travel from amp to ear. As for sound quality, it blows doors on the Shure system I used to have (can't remember the model). It's their flagship line, so it's pretty spendy at $600-650, but I happened upon a used one at a very nice price. It was missing the clip for the body pack, but a phone call to Peavey Customer Service (second only to New Hartford in my opinion), and $12 later I had the clip.

The venue is Boettcher Concert Hall and the resident sound engineers have a lot of wireless gear, but as far as I know, they're only used for mics, which I've used many times and will be using one for this gig. Maybe the transmitter will have a 1/4" input jack for an instrument cable as well. I'll check with these guys before I make any investment myself.

At a hall like Boettcher - be careful because of the number of other wireless systems in place....even close by in the Stage Theater and the Buell Theater. There are also two TV stations within a 1/2 mile - which can cuase problems. Get one with frequency switching options - so Lion King playing next door (which probably runs 50+ wireless signals in one show doesn't step on the frequency...stay above 2gig...I've never used line 6 wireless ...but the company's rep is strong. On the road - we used combos of switchable high end Sennheiser and Shure. Heck even the number of IEMs nowadays get in the way. As a rule - if the sound is important - don't skimp on your wireless system. If you are just playing loud rhythm behind a 50 piece band...low budget will probably work. If you have the solo in a quiet concert hall...get gear on the upper end. Don;t know if higher end Shure and Sennheisers are avail locally for rent in denver - but any number of NY houses will rent them. To me - 300 rent and shipping for a pro system - is better than 600 for a mid-level system which may not cut it. Think 2K for a higher end system. Then if you like it...most rental houses will tell you to keep it - and pay a balance to own it....and you got to test it out for a while. What's the gig....maybe I'll come.

I have an old Shure system loaned to me in the interim, plus I've ordered a Line6 G50 that transmits at 2.4G, plus the engineers at Boettcher have others in the event they want to take charge, which is likely given their union rules and all. I'll post how it turns out.

I'll likely use a smaller tube amp with a fat switch mic'd just off stage right, but we haven't gotten that far yet with the plans. We're still teaching the choreography and staging. This is a very big production number and me and the guitar are just a small part of it.
