Bluegrass that is..

Ok, not my cup of tea, but oddly enough I grew up around it. Truth be known, but first concert ever was Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt at the Goodspeed Opera house. Well what has this to do with anything you might ask?

Has anyone here heard of a band from Connecticut called Kentucky Wind. It was the Liska Brothers and a few others. They were pretty big in those circles in the 70's. They moved to Tennessee and now I believe are known as the Comstock Cowboys in Montana or somewhere out west. David Liska I believe became David John and in the 60's there was a band called Davey Jones and the Dolphins. Same Dave.

No real connection other than a lot of music from that family around Connecticut at the time. In fact when they weren't playing Bluegrass, they would perform as a Rock group called Crossroads.

Just curious to see if the Internet is as small as it sometimes feels.

Oh the Irony.. In fact the first Kentucky Wind album is called Indian Summer. While all of the tunes have some very authentic down south'yall names... they are ALL references to places around East Haddam Connecticut. Although I haven't verified it, I'm guessing Comstock Cowboys is a nod to a famous bridge near his and my hometown as well.. Comstock Bridge Photos

Neat bridge! There's still a few of 'em up there in the Northeast. Kinda reminds me of the one in the movie Sleepy Hollow.

You mean the story of Ichabod Crane, a lean, lanky, and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut. And while Sleepy Hollow supposedly takes place in New York, I believe it's the property of the Monte family (about 1.5 miles from the Comstock Bridge) that is called Sleepy Hollow. Not sure of the History of the property name and if it was named before or after the book.

As a kid I lived in Northeast Jersey (just on the south side of Route 17) and I remember Sleepy Hollow as being in Tarrytown, NY. Went on a grade-school field trip there one year just before Halloween. I loooooved Halloween!
