I looked for a string on this but could not find one. Sorry if if I missed it--

Does an opening $615 seem reasonable for this? I'm thinking it is and might bid on it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ovation-Model-1235-5-Eclipse-Semi-Hollowbod...

Thanks.

IMHO and during these economic times I think that the opening bid is pushing the upper limits.

Just my 2 cents and it really depends on how bad you want one.

One just sold for $700... And that is close to what this one will be with shipping.

They are getting pretty scarce.

As far as an "opening bid" goes...
In these economic times many people set their opening bid at the least that they will accept.
(I know that I do...)
Cuz many times you are only gonna get one bid.
(Bidding-wars are few and far between)

Ditto!

Judging from the pics it appears to be in pretty good shape considering its age. I've certainly seen 'em in rougher shape. Still has the original DeArmond pickups and it's still got the pick guard too. Mine didn't, but then it didn't cost me $615+ either! :D

The pickups are Schaller. Thunderheads had pickups which appear to be DeArmond but are actually proprietary

I stand corrected then. I had read somewhere when researching my Eclipse that the Storm series originally had DeArmonds. Guess ya just can't believe everything ya read on the internet!!!
When I bought my Eclipse it did not have original pickups - it had been fitted with `70's Fender humbuckers.

These are my 2nd favorite of the Storm series.

The Natural Finish Thunderheads are my first choice. The reason I'm being color specific is because I have owned several in different finishes and maybe because they would show flaws otherwise, the natural finished ones seemed to be a better build quality overall. This may not be the norm, but it was what I found having owned about a dozen of them over the years, nearly all in mint condition.

However, that being said.. I really like the Eclipse as a second choice. They seem to be bullet-proof (No Adam, that is NOT another challenge). I also like the pickups. In fact I like the pickups actually more than those on the Thunderhead. Never really put my finger on why.. they just sounded better to me.

Ya, I agonized up to the last 2 hours and decided to pass. I have a few unexpected medical bills lately and it's just not the best time to drop $600+ on another guitar.

If he re-lists it for less I'll have to agonize all over again.

Thanks to all for the feedback.
