Joined: April 2010 Posts: 823 Location: sitting at my computer | When I bought my first O back in `75 the guitar shop dealer said it was an Ovation Legend. Okay that's nice, I didn't care, I knew I absolutely wanted it regardless of what it was called. Over the years a few other guitarist friends had also commented on it being a nice Legend. So I was surprised to just now discover over on Ovation's Crack The Code page that it's not listed as Legend... it's a Glen Campbell Artist Balladeer (not that Glen ain't a Legend). My O's model no: 1617-4 (on an embossed, pewter style label) According to Crack The Code... 1 ("first digit of the series number is always 1") 6 (type of guitar) - Acoustic electric roundbacks 1 (bowl depth) - Standard bowl, 5 13/16" deep 7 (mode) (think they meant model?) - Glen Campbell Artist Balladeer (hyphen) 4 - (color) Natural In fact there wasn't any code for the Legend model listed among the 4 Digit Series. Guess I gotta go revise my collection list!

(look here: http://www.ovationfanclub.com/serials.asp ... the last two digits go together and "17" is shown as Legend or Deluxe Balladeer (my 1117 from 1969 is officially a DB - before they added the Legend name to the line-up). So it appears, in this case at least, that Ovation followed their own naming convention. edited to fix link

Argh, we'll lash that scoundrel of a webmaster to the yardarm and flog the Legends out of `im!!!
