Location: Fort Worth, TX | I understand what I'd have today if I had never sold my Glen Campbell O 30 years ago, but I'm wondering what kind of status I have right now with my dead mint condition 40th anniv Balladeer? How respectful of an O is this guitar? I actually enjoy playing it (and do more often) than the 150th anniv Martin custom D28 I had for years. I'd just like to know how high I have a right to hold my head up? Petty, I know. |

Location: Utah | That's a fine guitar! Nothing to apologize for there at all. I don't know anybody on this forum who would look down at any O or A owner. Heck, if all someone can afford (or wants) is a Celeb or Applause, we're all gonna cheer for them.
Go to an OFC get together sometime. You'll see a wide range of O and A products from the bottom to the top of the price range. Somebody will be oohing and aahing over your guitar while you're drooling over somebody else's.
I keep 3 acoustics out on stands in the music room, and rotate playing them even within the same session. An Adamas 2080, a 6778LX, and a 1976 vintage Patriot. They are all great guitars in their own way which inspire in different ways. Sometimes I break out my daughter's Applause AA13 for fun.
I think your cred depends on how much fun you're having playing it, and how much passion you have for guitars in general. |

Location: Fort Worth, TX | I am not concerned with the critics. They can pound sand. Like I said, I value this guitar over a D28 custom Martin. I like what y'all have said so far. Sounds like I made a good trade in getting this even for guitars I had $370 invested in and am solidly in the winner's circle. I'm going over to the best fingerstyle guitarist in Texas' place right now with it. He wants to use it for a recording someday. Google Stan Nowlin to hear his work. He's totally on a par with Chet Atkins and I intend to get a free lesson while I'm there. |

Location: Fort Worth, TX | Well I am sorry if you took offense to my post. My current collection is this O and an Ibanez acoustic that can't cut it at all. I was simply interested in what knowledgeable people thought of this Balladeer. It's been 15 years since I've bought an acoustic and I was curious as to whether I made a good deal. There's a first time for everything and you've just seen your first of this nature on this forum - even if it baffled you. Sure, I was looking for confirmation. I don't know why you'd be surprised I would seek it in the premier place for O owners? |

Location: Tennessee | In most places, if you walk in with an Ovation you automatically have zero credibility. Particularly with those people who spend the big bucks and/or buy their guitars for public acceptance and popularity. You know, the cork sniffers and open mic denizens who can't play for ((!)) but think because they have a $3K guitar, somehow their opinion doesn't stink.
If you walk into a situation like this with your Ovation, you damn well better be able to play it or it will be "I told you so". But usually it's not that big of a stretch because the bigots usually can't play, and the real players who may be there all probably had Ovations at some point and still have positive memories of them, even if they've moved on to something else that better them.
The K-1111RI is a stellar guitar ... or at least the one I have is. Or maybe, it could be I'm just a homer and it really is a piece of lap-slipping plastic crap. But to be honest, I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks. I like it. |

Location: Fort Worth, TX | Just this morning I THOUGHT I could DO Will The Circle Be unbroken. I went up to Stan Nowlin's shop to show him my fingerstyle progress. My version came off fine with only a few minor hiccups. Then Stan showed me HIS version. I felt like I had just played Mary Had A Little Lamb on a recorder. My credibility based on what I can DO is still a ways up the road - but at least the effort is solidly holding my attention. For whatever years I have left my playing will never approach Stan Nowlin. He showed me a few things tho to work on that I'm excited about. I'm fortunate to have a friend who is entirely on a par with Chet Atkins to help me. He has every album Chet recorded and can play every song on them note for note. And he's just an old sign painter like me - at least I'm a better sign painter of the two of us! I'd still recommend anyone interested in fingerstyle Google Stan Nowlin. BTW... I have the second DVD of a two volume set by Stefan Grossman that has a few bad spots in it on the very last song. If anyone wants it (they replaced it for me with a new one), email me your address and it's yours free. I'll take all the emails and put 'em on a slip of paper I'll draw out for the winner.
