Did Samova ever finish that wood box Adamas project? Was it any good?

And what's happened to Samova? Has he changed his name or gone over to the 'dark side'?

He reads regularly but posts infrequently.

He posted pics of his custom box Adamas a while back and at the time he seemed quite pleased with it.

Probably find the thread if you search hard enough.

Sam brought his (Samada) to the 1st S.E. gathering at Phil's place a couple of years ago.

Looked incredible and played/sounded VERY nice!

He has a few more finished pics in his "projects" album.

The wood adamas is now almost two years old and has opened up beautifully. It is in my view one of the best sounding guitars i have ever played.I play it and my goodall exclusively.I have not bought (nor do i want) another guitar since i bought the goodall and Ever since the wood adamas guitar was completed.I guess you could say i am GAS free for now!I also want to say that a woodtop ovation with multi-soundhole apelettes looks much more natural with woodback than with plastic bowl. All the wood complements the total look of the guitar. On a graphite top adamas the lyrachord works better.I wonder how nice the 1537's would have looked and sounded with wood backs?

I drop by every few days to read up on the OFC.I just have not posted anything..

i have also started buying vintage stereo gear and returned to listening to LP's again.I had forgotten how good record albums sound on high quality tube stereo gear.early 1960's McIntosh and early 70's Marantz mostly.

here is one side of my music room..

and here is the other side..

I've never seen that one before, and if I ever do, you may not ever see it again. ;)

Man that's gorgeous! Do you have pictures of the back and sides? Can you give a brief description of the project?

the reason i have a photo of samova's wooden adamas in my album on the the other site is because i think it is the most handsome guitar i have ever seen and one that i would love to play slack key guitar on. it looks magnificent. sam, are you able to record and post a sound clip of it?

I recognize most of the gear from the stereo stand.
I owned most of those Marantz pieces and lusted after the McIntosh!

The marantz solid state gear from the 70's is amazing but tube gear is just a bit warmer sounding.McIntosh is awesome.Almost everything on the stereo stand is from yard sale or estate sale.
Lanaki, the Goodall is a concert jumbo model and i would highly recommend his guitars. They sound totally different from martins,collings,etc..He braces and voices his guitars completely different and they are some of the finest instruments made.I will try to post a pic soon..

If you ever get a chance to buy a guitar from Sam, do it. I bought a 1537 off him that he said was "not pristine, but in good shape" and I have yet to see another 1537 that is even close to as nice. Good to see you on line Sam!

I foolishly sold most of my McIntosh gear. I still have a tuner.

I now run an old HK citation II.

and YES I still play vinyl.

I got a nice late 70s early 80s Pioneer setup down in the basement. Still sounds damn good but my main upstairs system is Theta and Martin Logan.

Wow, that's an incredible array of world-class guitars you've got there. Why don't you post some sound clips of you playing some of your amazing collection so we can hear how you use them? Maybe a comparison between the plastic slothead and the fake one.

Stephen, the Pioneer stuff is very good as well.In fact the large speakers in the pic above is a very rare pair of Elite TZ-9 spekers built here in the USA by pioneer.Only a few pairs were built and they sold for $4000 back in the 80's..They sound amazing along with the JBL studio monitors

You guys are all saying nice stuff about Sam and I can't argue the point. He's been generous with me.

I would argue the Adamas configuration of his hand built guitar. Well, not the configuration, but the title. A wood topped Adamas is an Elite. An Adamas by definition, has a carbon graphite top.

There. I'm done. That's gotta be the ultimate in nitpicking. But regardless of what you call it, I suspect that it sounds wonderful. I'd love the opportunity to play it.

Sam, I can't remember. Did you do A bracing or X bracing on it?

Maybe it should be called a "wooden back" Adamas.

Moody,if you go to photo gallery and go to samova and then "project" it will show the guitar and bracing during different phases of build.I selected the back and sides from about 30 sets the luthier had on hand and i also provided the top which was about 10-15 years old and came from the ovation factory.I had set it aside for many years in hopes of using it somewhere. When this project came along i thought using a aged top that came from the ovation factory would ad some "COOL" factor to this guitar.
