Location: cincinnati, ohio | Joe Walsh made the announcement in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. I may just take out a second mortgage to get tickets if they get anywhere near Cincinnati. I've never seen them, unless you count the time in 1971 when they played a local club called Reflections before anyone knew who they were - just a few months before that first album came out. At my age (61) I don't know how many more spins on the wheel I'll get - or how many more times the Eagles will tour (although I think they're up to about Farewell 6 by now). :D |

If you want to spend hundreds of dollars to hear The Eagles/Don Henley's Greatest Hits (according to Don Henley) exactly as they were recorded, with nothing new, not one note changed, just emotionless parroting… go for it.
Don Henley is a much better businessperson/marketer than performer/human being, imo. I saw the tour right after he "fired" Don Felder, and, although the "replacement" guitarist played every note perfectly, there was not one ounce of creativity nor feeling in his playing. That's NOT how Felder ever played live, and the difference was obvious.
The only redeeming parts that made that tour worthwhile were;
A. For some reason, Henley let Joe Walsh do a lot of his own songs; all the way back to The James Gang material, and Joe was on fire the night I saw them…
B. Tim Schmidt was only allowed to do a few songs, but he was pretty good, although even he seemed to be phoning it in…
(BTW, DON FELDER\'S BOOK is an interesting read, in addition to telling his side of the Eagles story, he recounts his teen years in Florida giving guitar lessons to some kid named "Tommy Petty" and jamming with another kid named "Steve Stills"…)

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion... but, I liked their music. They were one of many bands / musicians whose music kept inspiring me to practice playing and writing. I never was one for following the personalities or egos of band members... seemed like almost every popular group had its share of self-absorbed, totally obsessed, conceited, tortured artist(s). I was always WAY more interested in the music and lyrics. Wish I could play or write half-as-good as any one of 'em.
"Desperado" will always be on of my favs. |

Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Airplane, Queen, Who, Led Zeppelin,
Everybody has problems with drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, nut-houses and rehab.
(I had fun back then too, in a dysfunctional way... didn't everybody?)
Much like movie/TV actors, I don't care what they do in there spare time. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I went to one of their first reunion tours, back when $50 or $60 per ticket was outrageous, but I got a couple of free ones.
Very well done, tight, concert without a bunch of showy junk. Just how I like it. Joe Walsh played some of his stuff. I was never too big on James Gang, but everyone back then played the intro to Funk 49. Walsh was always goofy.
I was a big fan of the Eagles from the start and bought all their albums, but got over them about the time they came out with Hotel California. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I'd love to see Joe Walsh but don't really see a reason to see the Eagles live. I have seen them in concert on TV, and I think that was made more interesting because of the different camera angles. I can't really imagine sitting for 90 minutes+ just watching them play... I'd rather just put on an album in the comfort of my home. |

I could not imagine me sitting in a chair, just watching a concert.
All the concerts that I have ever been to in my life have been outside, or in Bars, or Clubs, or a Festivals or such. Outdoor amphitheaters, indoor sports arenas with open floors, Stadiums with an Open Football field (old farts could sit in the stands). Riverfront parks with food and beer (I don't) and hot dogs...
Someplace where you don't sit in a chair like you are at a movie theater.
Journey, Foreigner and Styx just played here at the Rose Garden Arena...
I thought about it, but I didn't go cuz I didn't wanna just sit.

Location: Orlando, FL | Last time I saw the Eagles was in the late 70's at a stadium show. Jimmy Buffet, Hall and Oates and Pablo Cruz filled out the bill.
The Eagles put on a great show, but listening to the whole crowd sing along out of tune all around me got old really fast.
I think tickets to that show were about $10. Think I'll pass this time around. |

They were the first band to charge over $10.00 for a ticket,it was $12.50 and I thought they were robbing me until the first comeback turn when they double the price of any ticket i had ever bought I think they were like $50.00, and I think they were the first to break $100.00. Giving new meaning each time to the phase "what the market will bare" |

Location: Seacoast NH | I personally wouldn't pay the absurd ticket prices I'm sure they'll get to see anyone other than The Beatles...definitely not for the Eagles!
I do like some of their tunes though, had some great guitar work. And the harmonies on "Seven Bridges Road" are incredible. |

Location: sitting at my computer | Joe - Great link. Thanks! I knew the Eagles didn't write this one, but I wasn't aware the author had recorded it. I never even thought to go looking. In fact, I hadn't heard any of his recordings before now, so thanks for that too!!!
And I just found out that others also recorded the song prior to the Eagles ( Rita Coolidge-1971, Tracy Nelson-1971, Ian Matthews-1973, ?-?... ). However, it's the Eagles version that I happened to hear first, so that's the one that's been indelibly etched into my memory banks... with their great vocal harmonies and slightly quicker tempo.
BUT... after having now listened to Steve Young's recording, I've noticed that the Eagles (and others) didn't quite get all of his lyrics correctly... Steve sings:
"Sometimes there's a part of me, has to turn away and go.
Running like a child beneath warm stars, down the seven bridges road."
NOT
"Running like a child from these warm stars".
Huh? Whats-a-matta Eagles, are them nasty ol' stars chasing after ya or somethin'?? :eek:
I know I'm pickin' nits but, their lyric just don't make no sense, IMO. |

| I saw one of the past farewell tours, and I felt it was excellent. I like many eagles tunes and play some myself. I also own 2 dvds of Eagles concerts and I've watched them many times while slurping down a cocktail. They put on a good show that I thought was worth the price. I read Felder's book, and I have no doubt he was telling the truth about the 2 top dogs and the ego, power, and money-grubbing. |

Pretty bad when stuff like that never gets played on the radio and you don't find out about it until 30 years later.
I had Sirius free in my new truck for 6 months and that was a load of drivel - even the Bluegrass station was as bad as "new country"..lol
I'm finding these days that the only place I can get music I like is off of youtube because people post obscure old tracks there and even Smithsonian archives of guys like Rosco Holcombe. Quality is real good now too and you can rip the audio as an MP3 which I don't really see as a problem because most of it is no longer commercially available anyway or the players are long dead. |
