It was an accident. Thinking it might be a nice compliment to my deep bowl Legend Ltd, I ordered a new 1866 Legend 12 string sight unseen from an on-line retailer in late 2002 or early 2003. Upon arrival, to my complete surprise, I discovered that it had this really thin bowl, the first one I had ever seen. Almost immediately, I fell in love with the feel, position and handling of this super shallow bowl/body configuration when played from a standing position. In addition, when plugged in and added to the band mix, I could not detect any diminution of tone or clarity in the midrange and treble notes, which is what I bring to the band. Man, was I hooked. I did some homework, then started chasing after more SSB models as well as the EA Viper models, which were even thinner yet, claimed to be the electric player’s acoustic, and were good enough for GC himself. First came a used Adamas 1881, then two prototypes, then two EA6 Vipers in special finishes. Realizing just how much I was gigging with the 1881 and EA6, I custom ordered the 1187 slothead SSB, the EA12 Viper, and the Koa topped VXT with its piezo/humbucker pup mix. Since then, I’ve never looked back. If I had to limit myself to the bare essentials, I could easily make do with just these three guitars, plus the custom Hamer Monoco III for single coils and either the Tak EF75 or custom 760TNV for a good woody. I know such a mix of gear isn't for everybody, but it really works well for me.

Agree 100%.
These are definately my #1 choice and it was not an accident ;-)
First comes a 1868-4 bought in Paris after i saw Marcel Dadi switching for Adamas SSB's, i was impressed with the sound he had and the comfort of playing as well.
16 years later comes my first Adamas 1881-2 from Stephen, then one 1868-6P with Mike's help and two EA6 from Miles the same year.
Two non-Ovation SSB joined the group within year 2008 and 2010 : a Gretsch 6122-59 and one nylon Godin ACS-SA.
Next one could be very closed to ProfBB's custom 1187, but first i need to clean the shop ....
Happy new year !

I've never played an SSB Adamas with an ebony board and a wider nut (ohhhh, and a VIP preamp) thru a great sound system while standing up, but I bet I would love it.
