It feels SOOO new and SOOO shiney it doesn't feel anything like my lived in Elite Special. Also the factory setup which I believe is done for a wide variety of players seems to have left the action VERY high, gonna have a stab at removing 2 shims to see if that helps. Not too sure if I ought to adjust the neck will wait to see what the shim removal does. It certainly is extremely well made and for £300... It's hard to really describe the difference really its like the Special is soft, warm, woody, inviting, organic, open feel whilst the LX (at the moment) is a bit hard and cold. I think it needs some serious 'loving'. The '84 Collectors will arrive hopefully tomorrow and I'm hoping that will have a more similar feel to the Special.

A brand new Ovation will rarely sound like one that has been played for 20 years, but it will open up given a little time and a bunch of playing.

I put some air locks on the lower/treble side epaulet holes and that improved the bass. Strings are a personal thing, but I really like the Elixir Custom Light Nano (.011-.052) for sound quality and ease of playing.

The LX is a lovely guitarr but the '84 is quite frankly a F****** awesome guitar! Patch, you said I would like it, you were so wrong! I **LOVE* it, WOW! As soon as I get back to the UK the LX goes on Ebay. As I say the LX is great but I will never play it, the 84 is that good. So Patch if thats the best SSB they did then my O fix is sated. Thanks for curing me. Yes the 84 is like the Elite Special but REALLY special, damn it's good...

There's a reason I intend to add one to my signature line someday. (BTW, I think yours looks much improved over yesterday. ;) ) I'm always scared to death that I may have missed something in my inspection or something, and I pride myself on an honest reputation. This past year, I've been forced to move several that I intended to keep, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten how good they were. I'm patient...well sort of...I can wait...because I have little choice anyway. Speaking of which...I'm still trying to move my like new Country Artist LX. Anybody?

Just trying to find out the best stain for the bridge. Back home now (the '84 was tended to by the flight crew) and the LX survived the trip in the hold but I don't think it will survive the comparison to the 84. It is Ebay bound...
