I know, I know, why would you want to. Well I love the sound of my Elite Std with FET 3 when I play by myself plugged or unplugged and I like it's feel. And I play mostly folk or folk/rock. But it's fun to jam with my son on his Strat on rock (harder the better for him) and with a cheap little Laney practice amp and "crunch" turned all the way up the best I can do is sound like a dirty acoustic Neil Young. Now I happen to like that sound, but it doesn't work for AC/DC.

So is this just a limitation of the piezo pickups or the FET 3? Is there an easy way to get Strat-like sounds with an Ovation. Different amp or effects box? Or is it time to buy a solid-body if I can't live without that sound?

Thanks!

Get a cheap electric or a VXT.

Go to Target (Walmart, Big K) and get a Lyon Strat (or phony LP) with an amp for $97

My Microcube will make my CS257 (or any of my A/E O's for that matter) sound like an electric...

Sorry, Scott, but this is essentially not possible unless you are willing to compromise your expectations. You can create an electric guitar effect by using multi effect pedals, but it won't be the same as, say, a solid bodied electric guitar running through that same pedal. This is why professionals use different guitars for different tone applications. The real question is, will the compromised tone of an acoustic running through an electric effects pedal be satisfactory to you? As Mark suggests, a VXT will allow you to adjust the tone at the guitar to go between tranditional electric pickups and an acoustic imaging pickup under the bridge (or anywhere in between). However, I would not include the VXT in the same sentence as a cheap electric.

Thanks professor that was my guess. Arthur I was hoping someone would say an Elite T was the answer to justify my lust for one. I think I'll mosey on down to the guitar store and plug into a bunch of boxes and see I can find something acceptable. And start looking for a beater electric that plays good but looks bad enough to fit my budget.

Di Meola seems to do it OK, but I think he may have a roland gk pickup going into a roland guitar synth.

In regards to "beeter" electrics, I don't have any "beeters" so to speak, but I will be putting some affordable solidbodies on the block shortly.

Send me a PM if you'd like and I'll shoot you some pics and info.

Oh! Definitely do that! :D
Unfortunately, I just plugged the T into the MC, set it for the Marshall Stack Rectifier simulation, cranked about 3/4 gain... touched the strings and the Feedback made me grab the guitar cuz I was afraid that I would break something!

But still get a T... Maybe you'll see one while shopping for that Eddie Van Halen beater.

just distort it enough and you'll be fine.

As mauvais indicates, just plug it into an electric amp, and crank the gain. You're trying to make an apple taste like an orange. You can get close, but it won't be citrus.

I tried the NV340S with the TriAx pickup into the Carvin X100B stack tonight, just for kicks and giggles. I got it to go without feedback, but it sounded like spew.

It wasn't pretty.

Fitting a single-coil magnetic soundhole pickup (like an Artec MSP50)will make it sound A BIT like a solid electric. It will feed back less than a piezo as well
