Joined: May 2008 Posts: 12 | Hi group, this weekend I ordered a 1861LX and it should arrive tomorrow. I am looking forward to tomorrow. They advertise it as lighter, louder, richer and fuller----Is this really true, or is it hype?? Does the LX features make it much better. I have finally decided get an accoustic. I have a 100 watt JVM a fender and a couple other humbucker guitars to make lots of noise with. But am looking for a guitar to sit on the couch with or outside during the summer. Making lots of loud music is not what I am after but rather a comfortable guitar with a good sound. Your opinion, did I make a good choise. The regular 1861 standard is 899. I bought the LX on there closeout price of 699 with 15% off so a total of 594 or something like that. Could I have done better with something else in the ovation line?? It has been about 15 years since I have played one but I liked the one I played back then. The 1861LX don't get alot of attention on this board and it is really hard to find info on it on the web. Harmony central don't even have a catagory for it, there is no user feedback on musicians friend so it was sort of a shot in the dark for me. Anyway what are your feelings about this guitar. Like I said I am really excited to get it and hope I like my new ovation Thanks for any input

That being said, if you're just going to play on the couch and play for yourself, you'll probably appreciate the comfort of the super-shallow bowl. Plugged in, the super-shallows can hold their own. You're getting a great quality guitar for a great price. The LX tech is good stuff. Welcome, stick around a while. Dig through the archives. Have fun!

I have an elite lx mid-depth that sounds better unplugged, but the 1861 is great for me. If you talk about the sound, COMFORT, and playability combination then the 1861 is a winner for me.

The big advantage, in my opinion, of the LX is the light weight. You get plenty of sound out of a light guitar with a fast neck.

After playing several including the 1861 Lx. I picked uMartins, Taylors, Alvarez,Breedlove, Taks but kept going back to the 1861 Lx. It was a warm day & kinda slow for a saturday there as the place is usually hopin but I had the acoustic amp room and all these guitars to myself. Then & there I decided that was probably going to be my next new "O" I just went in there to pick up a battery holder for my Clebrity that their Ovation buyer got for me no charge, so I left him an Applebee's gift card & thank you note. The following monday I got a thank you e-mail and one line said if theres anything else I need he would see if he can "pull some strings" for me ;) Sent him an email back with I really liked that 1861Lx & was thinking about a Korg GT-120. He replied with a let him know when I was ready as he was the buyer For "O" & Korg. That gift card may have been the best thing I could have done. The price you paid was good, the best I have seen them is $645, I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if I were you. Enjoy Wally

Unplugged, expect a sound that a bit too much on the treble side, and not so loud. It makes the perfect practice guitar without disturbing your neighbors. To really appreciate it, it needs to be plugged in as the preamp will do its wonders to make that guitar wake up. Good luck and Welcome to the OFC BTW. :)

I am not sure how many shims are under the bridge but I managed to remove the one I saw without removing strings. That helped quite a bit. You guys are right when you say it isn't very loud. I have a 335 clone that is almost as loud and it is a bit on the brite side a little too much treble for my taste. I may try some new strings if you guys can recommend me some, I use elixer on my electrics. The neck on this new guitar I must say to me is the best part, very close feeling to my fender, I feel right at home with it. I plugged into my amp and I get a terrible feedback, I guess my isp gstring will work on it. The treble and base eq seem to have dead spots on there extreme positions. Right now I am on the fence about if I should keep this one or try for another model. Regardless, thank you all for your feedback

The loudness, plugged quality, and string height were not a problem in the least. I say, if you can, take it back and get something you'll be more happy with. Life be short, keep what you enjoy move past what doesn't cut it. Sounds like too many issues with this box for me!

Joined: May 2008 Posts: 12 | Thanks for all your responses. So far this week I have ordered three guitars, a 1861 lx which I like alot but it had some cosmetic flaws and an eq issues and not as much volume as I would like but over all a really nice guitar. Very nice neck. The second one I ordered is a 2778LX Standard Elite Contour, it still hasn't arrived, but the more I thought about it the more I thought I wanted a black traditional looking guitar, because I really liked the looks of the 1861 lx. I don't know how I passed it up when looking on line but I passed right by the 2771LX Standard Balladeer Contour. I just picked it up for 594.00. I am hoping it has a deeper fuller sound than the 1861LX Standard Balladeer lx ssb and to me I think I like the looks better than the 2778LX Standard Elite Contour. I am just not crazy about the multi-color leaves and the black background. I forget there technical term but just a plain looking guitar is fine with me. Hopefully there isn't a great difference in sound. This has really been a strange way for me to purchase an item and I am still not sure I have made the right decision. For a group of ovation players this big you would think there would be more postings on one or all of these guitars, but there isn't. I have read, every thing I could pertaining to the different models and tired to piece together what I could on these three models but just not much available. 1861LX Standard Balladeer lx ssb 2778LX Standard Elite Contour 2771LX Standard Balladeer Contour None of the major chains have any "0" feedback, harmony-central don't and this site doesn't have much either on these models. All three look like good values when looking at there retail price and then looking at the normal selling price and finally looking at there sale price. But just not having any buyer feedback is sort of a worry to me. Any how thank you for your feedback and hopefully I have made the best decision I could for 600.00-700.00.
