I bought this about 8-10 years ago and then I replaced all the electronics. The previous/original owner said he had the body custom finished in the checkerboard pattern. It's a beautiful job of it. If you look in the electronics cavity you can see that there is no "previous" finish under it. So I don't think it was an aftermarket paintjob. If it was, the body was completely stripped to wood and then done right. It's as nice a solid opaque finish as you can find on any new reasonably priced guitar these days.

I just bought a white Ultra. Or this would be fun!

Always kind a liked Cheap Trick never did any of their stuff but that guitar does look like an Axe that Rick would have liked!

Maybe if we made them like that they would have sold better?

With all respect to the previous owner, checkerboard lovers and anybody else who find this an improvement to the legendary Breadwinner. Its like polkadots or any other pattern, you love them or you dont, so i guess thats a no from me, for whatever that is worth : ). For the small/minor part of the market that just want a guitar with a paintjob like that, you cant go wrong. For the majority of players out there, i think the cube pattern are just a little to much.
The breadwinner is such an oddshaped instrument that with a painjob like that set up as a standard you most likely will scare people away. But a "built to order" option would make everybody happy, then i would add some other pickups that would match the buildt in preamp and was able to deliver distortion/overdrive in a better way and throw in a tremolo as well. That would make me happy : )

I guess if we had made the checkerboard pattern and then Klein came with it on his he'd have a real hard time saying his design wasn't influenced by the breadweinner.

You know how on ebay it shows the seller how many people have bookmarked and are "watching" an item in My eBay? Well, there are currently 104 people watching this one! That's amazing. I know they are not buyers, but are curious to see who finally goes for it - and what the hell they will wear on stage that won't clash with it!

I wonder who the other 103 are. I was thinking white bucks, black silk shirt, a pink blazer and a porkpie hat. Too much?

I have had a number of questions about the new pickups and electronics in this Breadwinner. Here is the link to the guitar that the whole package came from. I bought it new, removed the donor parts, and resold it as a "project" starter.

When were talking custom Breadwinner, there is something i would like to know. Is it possible to use the buildt in Preamp with a different set of pickups or what kind of modification is needed to perform such a task? What would it require of additional electronics? And if its not possible, can someone explain why?

best regards
