Dave, that is incredibly tempting. But, the boss lady would have to sign off on that (given my recent acquisition from Alpep) and frankly, I doubt that'd be happening.

Still, they're fantastic looking, IM!HO. :\

These are pretty rare and this is an outstanding price.

If Dave puts it on eBay, he'll probably get at least $325. This last September, I felt fortunate to be able to get one for $355 (had a hard case similar to the '97 Collector's.)

From what I found, made in low numbers for a music store on Hilo.

Don't snooze...

One sale pending spousal approval, 3 offers waiting. Tony, thanks for your post. Oh yeah, the price is now $325. JUST KIDDING! But Tony is right these things are super rare. When I got mine our resident dealer said something like WTFIT? Anyway, not to trump this up too much because I think basically it's sold one way or the other. But this is one of the KOOLEST looking ukuleles I have ever seen. The only issue with it for me is that I've got it hanging on the wall like a piece of art-work (which it IS), and I just don't play it. I've got a bunch of "working mans" ukulele's laying around that I alwasy seem to grab when the urge hits me. But without question it's the prettiest of the bunch.

When my wife saw Dave's, she said I had to get it for her as she lived in HA before it was a state. So, since she is so encouraging about my guitars, I fought other bidders for it. I have the black tenor uke that I got through Al.

It is a work of art - she has it hanging next to her desk. In fact, she liked it so much, she told me I had to get her the Celeb 6-str parlor guitar to match...one of only 40 made and cost me $580.

Tnx, Cliffy. True story:

Came home yesterday and the box was here. Brought it in, did some stuff, then opened it. Took out the uke and was amazed and how nice it looks, well made, etc. The gig bag with the O logo is the icing on the cake.

My wife came home about fifteen minutes later. We chit chat about our day, and I say, 'Oh, hey, would you like to see something really cute?' She just ignored me and went on reading mail or something. I took that as an emphatic, 'Yes! I would!!' and went and retrieved TheUke(tm) from the spare room. She didn't look. I started to think, 'Now, what's eating her?' Then she *did* look (well, kind of hard not to as I was forcing it in front of her). Here was her reaction:

"I really didn't want to see it because I knew I'd get made that you bought some crappy ukulele that cost $250 and I can't imagine any ukulele being worth that. But...that is adorable! It's so cute!" I let her hold it, and she was impressed by the construction and 'heft.'

So, all's well that ends well, I s'pose. :) I played 'Row Row Your Boat,' part of 'Over the Rainbow' and 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' for her. Not that she was listening, but hey, my end of the deal was to serenade her with it, right? HAHA. Tonight I think I'll work on 'Sweet Violets' or something equally open to dirty verses.

Find one, you'll love it!

EDIT:

Oh yeah, it sounds great amplified. And through the lead channel it gets a nice dirty, gritty crunch going. LOL!

You know, I don't know if I ever actually played it plugged in! But "cute" would definately be the world for it.

Cruster, not sure if you want to stir this up with the misses but if she thinks 2 and a half beans is a lot for a ukulele, take her on an ebay browse of Kamaka and Martin. You can drop a G on a ukulele very easily.

Glad the Palm Tree found a nice home. This was a tough one to part with. But look at it this way, you're a 1/4 owner of an '05 Collectors.

Oh, yeah, it has a pickup. My only complaint is that the knobs aren't on properly (at max, the indicator on the top of the knob points the wrong way). But that's just me being anal about it. ;)

I played it for thirty minutes or so before I got the bright idea to plug it in. I was happily flailing away on the clean channel when Mr. Littleman (that'd be youngest son) stepped on the footswitch and brought us into overdrive. His eyes got about as big around as dinner plates. What a riot. Oh, and it didn't feedback in the least. HAHAH.

I've seen the Kamaka's and Martin's (on fleaBay and elsewhere), Dave. And let me tell ya...this was a hard sell; I can't imagine what that would've taken. Parting with it had to be difficult. I don't know that I could do it...but then again, this is my only uke. So far...

Gack! Don't even say that...I'VE ALREADY FOUND ONE! Playing cat and mouse with the seller on price, though, got old after one round and I bailed. Sally says I've reached the limit for stringed instruments in the house (and she was forgetting to include the two downstairs and the one that oldest son took to his mom's in that count!).

But, if anyone wants a palm tree parlor Celeb to 'invest' in until I build up enough good will...

BTW, uh, what are those palm tree celebs worth? :D

Well, I paid $579.95 on 9/17/04 and felt fortunate that it didn't go higher (had similar case as the '97 Collector's.)

Remember, only 40 made.

Only 40 made. I think I used that up with the uke. haha. I think what I really, really need is a goldtop uke with a p90 pickup.

EDIT: This is probably as close as I'll get, though. ;)
