Does anyone know of a source for replacement saddles out of bone or tusk for the wide plastic saddles on many of the Ovation models.

You mean you're trying to replace those wide pickup saddles? So they aren't an acoustic/electric anymore? Why?

I think he just wants to upgrade the one-piece plastic saddle to bone, which will still leave the A/E functions fully intact. Ovation Service sells these for $100.

I'm still confused. To me,the "wide saddles" are the segmented ones with the pickup built in. Have I missed something?

If someone finds a "wide" bone or tusq saddle or acoustic-only blank that will fit into the wide slot of an A/E bridge please let me know. This is exactly what I am looking for to convert a couple of A/E guitars to acoustic-only. Dave

Xnoel;

The plastic saddle on the top of the standard "O" pickup is removable (carefully!). The actual pickup elements are underneath this saddle. This saddle can then be replaced with a custom made bone version available from Customer Service. Although I haven't tried one yet, it reputedly inproves the sound both acoustically and electrically and is well worth the $100.

Thanks folks - Yes I want to keep the accoustic/Electric capabilities but want the better tone that Bone or Tusq provides. I'll try Customer Service Next.

Al,
well i just bought on ebay a 12 pack of bone saddles blanks that are double wide. (not sure what type of bone). They measure 3.25 " x 15/32" x 7/32" . (the description even said they would work for o's once worked down. )
I bought them from an ebay store called the "fret shop" run by ebay user "fretdoctor". kind of way cool luthier stuff, check it out, maybe he has more (my 12 were $28.5o, but now remember I am just an idiot who buys first, thinks later)
If you (or anyone) need one, i could send you one, once I actually get them sent to me. I will keep at least 6-8 of them, but i do not mind sharing. no charge, i can handle a couple of stamps to get one to any usa address. if interested let me know. peace mike

Hey Fugot, once you get those in if you're partial to sharing. I would love to mill one down to install on my 1758, I have a spare p/u assembly to mess around with. let me know. I'll send you a couple of duckets to cover if needed.

Thanks,

Glenn

Thanks for your magnaminity, Mike! So, Guys, do we want to make another order? I'm willing to "front" for an order of another dozen, but probably won't use more than two, or three, max.
Let's see how many we can commit to by the close of business today (5:00 PM Pacific).

What would be involved in using one of these to replace your factory installed saddle? Or is this one of those, if you need to ask, you don't need to do this.

T'would appear the options are: Replace the whole wide pickup assembly, or mill the saddle blank to the same dimensions & contours as the original plastic saddle. Obviously, the former would be easier. I have examined the plastic saddle, and that's some pretty fancy machining work involved. I'm sure the plastic ones are injection-molded, whereas the bone or tusc replacement would have to be milled.
I suppose this is a somewhat conjectural endeavor, given the sound enhancement may, or may not, end up being significantly improved. It would be a significant investment of time and effort, though.

thanks,
