Joined: September 2003 Posts: 36 Location: South Eastern Arizona | I am selling my Concert Classic Model 1116, Sr# 227052. You can see pictures in my photo gallery (tap116)or I can send you the pictures. The guitar and case are in excellent condition, especially considering their age (1981). There are two very small finish dings on the top that are very difficult to see and nearly impossible to photograph. They do not penetrate into the wood. There is some minor wear on the first three frets and fretboard. The guitar has no playability issues. The guitar is pure acoustic—no electronics. Everything works on the case, and it still has its key. My asking price is $350 with buyer paying freight. Excerpt from 1982 Ovation Catalog: Designed for the performer as well as the student, the Ovation Concert Classic projects a warm, mellow sound. It has a full 19 frets built on the standard 25 1/4". A sitka spruce top utilizing the Ovation VT-10 bracing pattern produces a full-range sound with a little more bass than the Ovation Classic. Mated with our exclusive five piece neck that allows adjustments to compensate for changes in humidity, the Ovation Concert Classic is an instrument of excellent tonal balance designed to be the perfect practice and performance nylon string guitar at a modest price. -- When life throws you a curve, lean into it.

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 2 Location: Winston-Salem, NC | I just received a Model 1116 today from my sister who's had it for many years. Never played. Nice price, too, - free. This is my first Ovation. Very nice sound. There is a set of old steel strings on it. Obviously, this guitar should use nylon strings? Any suggestions on what type of strings to use for this model? Thanks, Dan

But I'm sure someone will either chime in on this page or move the topic over to the general discussion section. again Congrats on your Ovation and don't be a stranger.

I saw that there are archives on here and searched them and found a lot of suggestions for nylon strings. Should have looked there first. Duh! Looks like a lot of people use the D'Addrio Pro Artes, Hense 150's, and Labella. Yes, this Ovation is a boomer on my porch. What sound. That's why I was wondering about the nylon strings if the sound will diminish. I didn't realize it was a Classical Ovation until I received her package today. I have a Martin, an old Decca - my 'beater', and an older classical guitar. This Model 1116 really has the sound though. I'm impressed. I'll just remember to never drop it. :-) Thanks, Dan

It never is fun trying to tie ends at the bridge. tap116 hope you get your price. The Ovation Classical has a much better Mid Sound than a lot of all wood Nylon string guitar.

By comparison to LaBella and Savarez, D'Addarios just don't have the best tone, and the "G" string is soooo bad (tubby). But whatever strings you use, make sure they are high tension. I tried some medium tension strings, for about 5 minutes. They were terrible with no tone or projection. My Concert Classic is still avaiable.
