I do a fair job, I guess, of keeping my GAS pains under control. But I intend sometime, not too distant, to get my first acoustic-electric O. Which model should I pursue, since I hope to be spending $500 or so for my first? I've got an old Yamaha acoustic that I love - I've had it for 25 years, but the frets are in bad shape.

I played a used Balladeer at GC that I liked, and I noticed that the folks here sell to their own at good prices.

So... what to buy?

jas,
Look for either a used Balladeer or a used Elite standard 6778. they come up ever so often on ebay and occasionally right here in teh for sell section. There is a 1768 Elite on ebay right now with starting bid at $300.You might want to keep an eye on it, It's a real nice Ovation. My advice is just keep your eyes open for good dealsa and If at all possible stick with the USA Ovations.

I'll bet if you're patient you'll start to see used Baladeer LX's in your price range...certainly Elite T's. I just recently got my Std Elite LX used on ebay for $650. My daughter (the artist formerly known as Lori Anne) got her Elite T for $550. Except for no warranty these are just like new guitars.

There is a nice Elite on Ebay here . I love the natural finish. I wouldn't mind getting that one, except I have a Custom elite LX already. I'm looking for a great deal on a natural finish legend or balladeer.

One thing that makes that guitar really special is that "the frets are not bent." :D

Well, that's typical in a well-played guitar, you know.

Here's what I would do. I would get the O first, then have the Yam refretted, thay way you have your new friend, and your old. ;)

That makes a world of good sense, Curly.

here's another question. Would you all suggest looking at ebay first (I guess you just did), or posting here or emailing Al? Wouldn't I rather deal with a clubber?

Post a wanted or talk to Al first.

Usually a better guitar and better condition.

Then check out the bay and see if anything is available.

Jas,

I just won an Elite T, 1778T from ebay for $400. the auction looked a little scary but I made contact with the Seller and if necessary will rely on the safety net of Paypal. anyway, get your hands around one of the Elite T's. These are the Sleeper bargains of the USA Ovations. Next I would grab an Elite LX.

Oh yeah, I already did! :D

I think I want a round hole to start, and I like the looks of Balladeer 1711-Deep, S771-Mid, and S861-Shallow. I'm thinking mid-bowl, tear drop burst. Is there any reason I should reconsider the bowl depth? I want it to sound natural unplugged, but would mostly play it amped.

Thanks, Pegleg. Yes, I got it. I'm thinking of registering CaptainLovehandles.com and making that the address to my site instead of JasIngram.com

Now that I've been putting stuff out there under my name for so many years, I kinda wish I had more anonymity. Plus, I have a cool Capt. Lovehandles logo, so I could sell shirts. I bet a bunch of us boomers would want a Capt Lovehandles shirt, then I could branch out... Senior Beerbelly... other ideas?
