He took it to a local luthier????? who said someone had overtorqued the neck and broke a fret. He is asking if I knew anyone that could replace the neck. I don't understand what the problem is, but thought someone might have some parts laying around. It's a red body, so the neck is maple colored and the headstock is red. I work with his wife and she is pissed at me.

I just get tired of our society's view that influences are to blame and no one has to be responsible for thier own actions. I've also spent a frustrating morning configuring the blasted firewall we need because the poor misunderstood hackers are pounding on our doors 24/7 these days. I either need a new guitar or some of Dave's Prozac. Maybe Woody could graft a Deacon neck onto it?

I got the death stare from her. Sure I'm not responsible, but I still get the stare from time to time!

Then I pointed out the one on ebay that he eventually bought, so she was more pissed. He already has about 10 guitars, but only one of them is an acoustic and it's an old Yamaha. She agreed he needed a new acoustic, but he went and bought an electric. In reality, she was pissed at him for buying something he didn't need, but hoped he at least got a good deal. She was jokingly pissed at me for being part of the male conspiracy to spend all our money on guitars so our wives have to wear the same dress to more than one Christmas Party. Parts of this story have been told in several other posts. Most of it is true.

Somebody's always pissed at you, even the people who work for you (hey, I know what law office staffers say behind their bosses backs). Have you ever thought you're too sensitive for this work and should find something else? There's a classic line in a novel, where somebody brings a dog to an attorney's office and when the attorney walks in, the dog growls. The attorney's comment was "How'd the dog know I was a lawyer?"

Maybe her husband used my line and told her he'd start making money off his guitars when she started making money off her party dresses. On second thought I told her that right before she got pissed. I agree with Bill, the story about the broken fret doesn't make sense. The guy he took it to just showed me their only "USA made Ovation" that was clearly labeled Made in Korea. I wouldn't trust him.

He has a crack in the fret board above the first fret and cracks in the head above the nut. He took it to Bolin's, the local manufacturer of the ZZ Top and some Rolling Stone guitars and they told him he may have to replace the neck. I gave him my opinion to get his money back from the seller, but I'm probably getting more involved than I should. I do feel badly that I got him hooked on Ovations and his first experience was a bad one. I'm learning slowly that there can be lots of problems with guitars that I don't even know about. I've either been lucky or too dumb to notice if there's a problem with any of mine.

Beautiful guitar, but someone has tightend the truss rod until the top end has been driven into the neck, splitting the fretboard and lifting the nut and first fret. The truss rod is at least a quarter inch past where they should have stopped turning. We're going to check with Miles about a replacement neck. Otherwise, I bet someone who is handy like MWoody could fix this.
