Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Brown delivered a box today. It has a big Taylor logo on the side along with the inscription "Made in Mexico". I naively thought Taylors were all made in the US. Haven't opened the box yet. Sure hope its not a Taylor. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | All is well. No Taylor, but a fabulous GOO instead! More about it tomorrow or the next day over on the Tak site. I just find the MIM inscription surprising. One other observation that borders on the ironic (or moronic) . . . the Taylor shipping carton is now standing next to an Ovation carton so it begs for a side-by-side comparison. The Ovation carton is heavier, more substantial, and is obviously made of a thicker cardboard material. The sides of the Ovation carton are straighter, much less prone to tear and puncture, and the edges at the corners are more precise. The exterior is also more uniform in color and the cardboard corrugations are tighter and more uniform. Cellophane tape also adheres better to the Ovation carton. The Taylor carton also has a warning on both sides about what to do in the event of damage, almost as if there is an expectation that damage is likely to occur. There is no such warning on the Ovation carton. Finally, darned if the Ovation carton doesn't actually have better resonance after a strong slap with plastic baseball bat, too. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | Baby Taylors are made in Mexico, as well as all of Taylor's guitar cases. It may be that their lower-end guitars made with laminated wood come from there as well...Big Baby, 100 & 200 series.

Location: Tennessee | It's probably only 25 miles from their HQ in El Cajon to the mexican factory. Martin is making a bunch of their lower end models in mexico, too. Fender has been there for years; it's probably only an hour or two by car from Corona to Mexico. |

Location: SoCal | Had a painter at the house a few months ago, said his uncle had a small guitar store in TJ...Taylor had him doing guitar assembly. He thought that Taylor also "jobbed" out to others in the TJ area. |

FWIW, some of the Mex Fenders are looking pretty nice these days. Wonder if any Ovation production is slated to move there. Seems like it would make more as much sense to give the much-closer Mexican economy a boost as that of Indonesia/Thailand/China, etc. |
