The sad thing is that most of us probably knew what Cliff meant, even though it didn't really make sense.
I think Carlin used obscenities at first to gain attention to point out the ridiculous foibles of American life. Later he seemed to have mellowed and maybe it was intentionally ironic that much of his foul language became normal in American speech. I don't think he would have wanted to go any deeper than that, so I'll stop.

Somebody on RawDog (mebbe Jim Bruer) said Carlin was the "John Lennon" of comedians . . .
(not everybody "liked" him, but everyone gave him his (due) "props" . . .)

Last Friday I saw a few things by Carlin on YouTube and was impressed by how much he has to say. His ideas on politics, language and religion are pretty serious stuff, just dressed up as comedy. And VERY good comedy. He will be missed.

Another genius of his craft lost. I did get to see him twice, once in Hampton Beach, man that whole place was roaring, what a cool guy.

He was very visible in New York City in the early years especially at various colleges. Hailed as the "Mark Twain" of our generation.

"Requiescat In Pace" George Carlin.

". . Carlin was more "Stones" . ."

Nah.

Carlin was too cerebral.
He could ramble on (and on) intelligably on his particular views on numerous topics (which always made him somewhat of a lousy comedic "interview").

Belushi was more "Stones".
