Her Daddy got her a Lawyer with a fairly vicious reputation locally. This was my first go through with the legal system in a back-water County with a high government Worker population - translates to make the Father pay for everything. Said Lawyer had a lot of opportunity around here. This was a wonderful time to find my own limits and build a strong faith, a.k.a., go through Hell and find the Exit Light over the door out! Years later, said Lawyer runs for Judge. Has the Rotary and local Good-Ol-Boy clubs neatly packaged. I write a simple but straightforward letter to the Editor saying something about “paid Mercenary” and “character lacking for a Judge”. I thought I had said my peace and was done. Then I found out that several Past Recipients and Cronies read the paper too! Three rebuff’s and a community full of opinions later… the Election took place. Haven’t seen his name around here since.

He backs out of a parking spot, across the street and heads the other direction. Cop stops him and cites him for an improper U turn or something. He figures that he better clean up for his court appearance, so he goes to the local barber. He tells the barber that he needs to get cleaned up for his court appearance and then babbles on about the stupid cop, etc. Next morning he walks into court and seated behind the bench is the barber aka judge.

I have a friend...well, acquaintance, seeing as I haven't talked to him in about 10 years, I guess...who used to be a garbage man (sanitation engineer?) for the City. He threw his back out and threatened to sue. Believe it or not, they struck a deal and wound up putting him through law school in return for no suit and he gets a healthy share of the local PD cases. It's a crazy world.
