Here is a Classic M763, with midi interface on Fleabay.

Is this a solid, USA model?

Any info on this?

I'm assuming that it is, based on the serial number. Don't only USA O's have the six-digit SN series?

It's a midi version of the 1763. standard USA deep bowl cutaway classical. It was listed a few weeks ago and did not sell. Dave

My estimated "value" is probably lower than the reserve for this one.

If I do win it I just tell SWMBO that my Band Leader wants someone to play a nylon strung for some upcoming songs!

I'm seriously thinking about it, as I have a Roland GR-33 with nothing to plug into it (at the moment). When I get a Viper, I plan to mount the GK pickup on it, but it would be very cool to have a nylon for it as well.
Don't hate me, Woodman.

I saw this the last several times it's been listed, but smelled a rat. Is the midi interface an aftermarket mod? The pickup doesn't look right to me, and I may be missing something but I can't see a 13-pin output. There's no reference to midi compatibility in the listing. Be careful.

Not sure, Paul. I've got some questions in to the seller. I know Ovation made a classical, balladeer and legend version with midi (just another case of being ahead of thier time).
Don't know where the interface came from, maybe Bill could answer that one. Looks like the midi level control is forward from the battery screw, with the jack possibly right below it (dumb location, but it looks like the level control/jack are one unit...

I thought the desirable midi interfaced Ovations had a 'R' prefix for roland, i.e. R763.

Desirable they may be (they had a complete Roland interface), but they are pretty hard to find as well. They didn't make very many, and only Elites and CL's.

Hey fellow OFC members,

Since my office is 15 minutes from the store, I decided to stop in and try it out (which I did). Here are my two cents on it:

Model M763 Made in USA
Serial # 355137
Been played alot
Sounds good (not as good as my Takamine EC-132)
Can use a good cleaning
All Electronics seem to work well
Interesting switch near the OP24, a bypass button !!!
No MIDI features on the guitar; regular OP24 pickups and preamp, and one regular guitar jack hole
Two big cracks/fractures on the top of the guitar below the bridge; can not tell if it goes all the way through
I will wait for a better condition one on ebay !!

What about the pickup? As far as I can tell from the pics the original Ovation pickup appears to have been replaced. It looks like a regular width saddle shimmed wider to fit the slot.

Seems the early Ovation midi controller was a Shadow system with a large external converter box. Found one HERE on EBAY. Haven't found what the on guitar controls might have been. Looks like some extra controls on the upper bout on this one.

Edit: the card could still be in the guitar as the converter was fed through a std stereo phono jack

Yup, Tim. That's the info I got from Kim K. this afternoon. The converter was a rack mount. Kim says he has a bunch of them. But, he also says this system has "next week latency" and tends to make up it's own notes if it's not sure what you're playing...

...think I'll pass on this one.

MIDI.
Only this was before Roland got into the guitar synth act. Early MIDI converters were very slow to respond, and often had problems interpreting (I know, I have a couple, even from the 90's, which were inadequate). Takes a decent processor and programming to accomplish clean frequency to MIDI interpretation.
According to KK they had a rack-mount processor and terrible latency.
