I might have the chance to buy it from him and was wondering if the guitars are worth it/how they stand the test of time. I have done some site surfing and have found a couple good reviews, but I thought here would be the best place to ask.

Be prepared to answer the questions like "Ovation made a hollow body?". Play it and if you bond with it you will have a part of history that isn't going to be repeated!

If you don't like it, send it to me, and I'll send you 20 bucks! Play it and if you bond with it you will have a part of history that isn't going to be repeated! More seriously, it's definitely not a bad guitar by any stretch of the imagination. JB

They sound almost identical to any late 50's DeArmond-equipped Gretsch but the construction, neck and general stability are much better. At the volume levels my band played at the pickups were a feedback nightmare, but once they were wax-potted they were fine. Temp plays a Thead professionally. He needs to weigh in on this..... The German vibrato tailpieces are junk, I replaced mine with a Bigsby. I use "Nut Sauce" graphite paste at all friction points and tuning stability is fine. The stock wiring with the blend pot and phase switch is cool, but a pain in the ass onstage. I always thought the T-Head had DeArmond pickups, but in the patents section of Jerome’s website www.ovationtribute.com it turns out that Jim Rickard designed and has a patent on the T-head pickups. Cool. My track on the OFC members CD features my T-head if you want some idea of what they can sound like. Of the many guitars I own, this is one that I spent the least on, and it's one of my favourites. This, the "Viperwinner" and the B-Bender Viper III are keepers. ![]()

Best guitar I've ever had my hands on(beats those old les pauls at guitar center). After playing it he mentioned he might keep it because it plays so well and he'd forgotten that. So I'am a little scared I might not have the chance to get it. I feel like golem from The Lord of the Rings....or a heroine addict. It's going for $495 which I think is pretty fair considering the conition but I'll try my best to haggle if he dicides to let go of it. *shivers* We needs to have it precious!
