Having some desires to play bass lines and guitar parts on the acoustic and switching back and forth during songs... Can't do this with any consistancy or style without an Acoustic Doubleneck Bass & 6 string. Assuming I can't afford to have Ovation build me a 4 string Bass & 6 in my choice of colors (although if I had about 8k this would be my choice) I am curious to see if any of you know if any other guitar company ever made an Acoustic doubleneck like this?? I see a lot of doublnecks some quite cheap but nothing with the bass and guitar together??
Thanks
Randy

I don't think I've seen bass, but I imagine I've seen baritone/standard combinations before. Give me a little bit to poke around and I'll see what I can dig up.

Knowing what a handful the 6/12 doubleneck is, I would think you would have balance and reach issues because of the length of the bass neck.

I do remember seeing a custom 6 and bass electric guitar. I think it was a Jackson or Carvel and it had the bass neck on top.

I was the proud owner of a great Rickenbacker Doubleneck 4080 Bass & 6 string in Azureglo Blue until I sold it this past year. It was totally playable, very heavy and I did hate to let it go but the collectors value on these is reaching the $6k mark nowadays and I had to justify having so many guitars so the cash from this helped with the GAS.... Now I am becoming so involved with the Acoustic act and having to choose between playing BAss or Guitar for some songs when they really need both like many Jethro Tull songs where my partner is singing and playing guitar while I knock out a bass line... then, when the flute parts are previlant I would like to jump back to guitar to fill the sound out.

I would love nothing more than to have Al come up with his price on a doubleneck acoustic Adamas 1 with a 4 string bass neck bottom and the 6 on top. I just know it will more than I can do. I do have that great Acoustic five string bass I have been thinking of selling and for this doubleneck I could let that 1688-7 12 string go.... Have an older Caddy Conv that I will not be able to have ready to sell for about another year at my present rate of project completion... Just thought there may be another choice for this instrument before I go through all the hassle of selling and then the price tag for the custom factory work.
???

Hey that's one! Man I miss mine. I think there are still shots of it from the shop where I bought it a while back for Sts & Gigls I'll see if it's still in there... Yep

http://www.the-music-connection.com/riccol.htm

It's about 9 rows down in the collectables page. I think this is the page that will come up for you?
Fun instrument got a lot of comments but do not have the use for it like I do for an Acoustic Doubleneck.

Until that doubleneck comes your way, why not check out a Godin nylon with built-in synth access?

I'd rather have integrated synth access on my EA63, but until Ovation comes up with a built-in, the Godin will have to do... and it does it better than anything out there.

I was looking at a Godin Mandolin before I bought my Ovation... What is this Synth Nylon?? Does it electronically make the strings drop an octave and allow a bass riff with an easy switch??? Sounds interesting this is why I like to post questions in here. Always someone with some kind of an answer you do not think of.

Go to the Godin site and read-up on the nylon string Multiac and ACS guitars.

Then go to the Roland site and read-up on the VG88 and GR33 processors.

An interesting note - My Roland VGA-7 amp allows you to go down or up an entire octave. It does allow you to turn the guitar into a bass and it's VERY realistic and a lot of fun. One of my favorite presets is that it can split the strings - 1 thru 4 is guitar and 5 & 6 are bass strings. It sounds awesome with any fingerpicking material.

That Rickenbacker bass & guitar is the sh*t!!! I had no idea that these were ever made. It would be cool if Ovation would make an Adamas double neck bass & guitar.

Years ago, I visited Hofmans (one of our local music stores) and played a very strange Ovation. The 4th, 5th, and 6th strings were double stringed and strings 1, 2, and 3 were single. This was a 9 nine string Ovation guitar. Has ANYONE ever seen this before? I've never seen another and regret not buying it because of it's oddity.

Randy, also check out the Electro-Harmonix POG.
I played one and loved it...great reviews.

POG

I think this would do exactly what you are looking for without the inherent problems that most of the others seem to have (and I love my Roland VG-88 and GR-33).

OK Wow technology...... Dam; this keeps up and there won't be a need for a musician to bother bringing the guitar to the Gig anymore.. You can just push a button and the synth will play the drums, bass, guitar's, keys, banjo, mandolin, sax, flute, violin, uke's and do four part harmonies and you don't even have to be there. You just have to be a good programer.

Interesting bunch of products though. Certainly would be fun to see what I could do. Nowhere near as impressive as using a doubleneck but more cost effective considering how brian dead & disconnected most audiences are these day's to the musicians on stage anyway.

Thanks for the tech stuff. I am fascinated.

Taylor makes a doubleneck....Ritchie Sambora plays a nice koa one. Not sure if they will deviate from the 6/12 configuration.

Thanks for that Mike........Jeeeesuuuuus......
Funny; I guess I am the first guy who ever wanted an Acoustic doubleneck bass & guitar?? I have tried almost every company I can think of and even dozens of vintage guitar dealers and there is nothing... no one can even think of one??? I really did not think a guitar of this configuration in an acoustic would be unmade??? THere must be somebody who made one of these....
I am sure if and when AL gets back to me about the pricing on one of these from the mothership (no hurry at all Al, I know of some of your other worries) I will break into a sweat for a week.

Being original may mean losing some friends and having to spend a lot more money but what the heck.

I am there for you, at least until the money runs out!

I would like a friend. But I have no time for one. And you just got my last $145.00. Dam!
I sure hope Al will be my friend again. I will have more money again ??? I am sure I'll need it too. Not going to be able to go for that Slothead from Sam that's for certain. And I may need to sell this convertable to have this guitar made. Perhaps the Factory will give me a low interest loan????

A solid body bass/6-string on ebay. I wouldn't go for the BIN price, but drop them an offer and see if they go for it. At the very least, make them throw in the case that they have listed seperately.

I have been watching and there have been some nice ones. I need an acoustic version of this arrangement. Randy
