Each year the local Elks run a picnic for the hospitalized US veterans at the facility in St. Albans, Queens. This year it will be on June 21st beginning at about 11:00 am and going to 2:00 pm. Basically, it's hamburgers and hot dogs on a large charcoal grill. However, for these vets it's something that they never get from the hospital kitchen and they love it. For the past several years musical entertainment has also been featured. We set up some amps, a PA and mics and do our best to play some live music. The vets are very appreciative. All you need is a guitar which can be plugged in and a guitar cord. This year, courtesy of purchases from Al and Temp, I'll also have a cajon with a percussion mic (Cliff?). If you want to join us please PM me for more details. I also want to acknowledge the talents of OFC members Gil/ignimbyte and Phil Wong for all of their past help and assistance with making the event memorable for the vets. | ||
