for those interested, I did catch another falling star on this one(at least in my opinion). and...

This is the second time that the seller shipped me a guitar in nothing but the ohsc, taped shut, and a label slapped on the side... and arrived intact with no issues, they must handle them better without a box I guess...

It's a 1979 1613-1 sunburst classical ser#184023, hand laid deep-bowl, no finish cracks at all, stereo output with stacked tone/vol(special order?), there is no fretboard extension (again special order?) or if was broken off was repaired to appear it never was there.

electronics/pickup not yet tested, but will let you all know soon.

The guitar is really dirty but should clean up nice, everything is where it should be and unbroken or damaged, the neck is straight, and no major dings anywhere. top is flat and with a good "tap check" all bracing appears to be tight. the gold hardware has a slight bit of pitting on it but again should clean up pretty easily.

the binding is pretty heavily checked all the way around, but all is tight with no lifting or real cracks all the way through. neck/headstock in smooth undinged or chipped condition very nice.

this is not a standard burst(at least in my opinion) and is a teardrop with no light finish showing above mid-soundhole, very "Gibby" in appearance.

ohsc, tuner, case candy, brochure, warranty card, key, and a Mel Bay "Easy Way to Guitar A" included as well all in good condition. (maybe I'll try and learn to play with it).

this guitar is extremely light and loud with a very deep resonant tone, blows Al's 1624 completely out of the water and then some even with the ancient strings on the 1613 which are at least 2 years old.

so with a little elbow grease, some mequiar's and some new strings along with a new battery if the elx are in funtioning shape, I think I did alright for $370 shipped..

I knew I wanted one of these, think I found a great one.

This one came via Brown from TX, the other which was a custom built 1of50 ssb elite, came fedex out of NY.

both times waited to hear the rattle of kindling and slack strings when I picked up the case.. and instead was pleasantly surprised both times.. not that I would ever think of shipping that way... but it worked for them.

1st 2 inch neck I've played, really nice.. and vintage deep-bowls seem to be my favorites so again I've been blessed with a goodun.

well it's a winner all around, the pickup and preamp are working both in mono and stereo, the pots are really stiff, and the preamp module moves around a little when turning vol/tone because of it, but nothing that some wd-40 and a tug on the nut won't fix when I take it apart to clean/detail it up at string change..

so now waiting for John B. to call me back(out today) and let me know what it originally looked like or if it is how it originally looked/was configured when it left CT 28 years ago..

the 85 collectors is supposed to be delivered to service tomorrow as well for refreshing so what I saved on this will probably be made up for by the price of the neck RA/fret dress and minor blemish repairs on that.

and I thought it was a shared event Noah..... my bad.... have I missed something?

anyway, OUR? 2985 will be at the factory today for refreshing, I guess it's still up in the air as to who's paying for the repairs while it's there, and whether it's heading south or west when done. ;)

Thanks,

Glenn

John B. from the mothership just called regarding the 1613, tells me it's as made including stereo and the finish and fretboard, according to him it is era correct and a couple of versions were produced to include white and black finish tops. He's seeing if he can dig up the warranty card for it like they did for my others and will see where it was sold first if was ever registered for warranty.

There is no better customer service on the planet. Thanks John!!
