I recommend having someone else bring it in and leave it sit inside while you try to work for a few hours. I don't think anyone could wait 24 hours before opening a 1537. I've had guitars shipped with much bigger temperature swings than that with no problem. Just don't do anything to drastic.

Joined: December 2005 Posts: 109 Location: Alabama | Bummer.... Guitar has been opened and has a 3.5" through wood crack approx 1/4" above the old repaired crack. The top is not level across the crack. Mild pressure does not cause the top to move much at all. The crack is not visible in the auction pics. There are also a few very minor finish cracks near the bridge (all less that 1/2" and not parallel to the grain)and one 3" finish crack at the end of the fingerboard that curves across the grain. I have emailed the seller to see if any of these were there prior to shippping. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Seller doesn't mention the cracks, nor are they visible in the pics...it would be my guess that those apes handling your guitar didn't exactly "Handle With Care". I swear some of those delivery guys go out of their way to damage stuff (or at least out of spite when they see a "Fragile" or "Handle With Care" sticker). Too bad there is not a system to track every worker who handles your product in case of damage...I realize weather and other factors play a role, but I have no doubt that if there were a way to hold EVERY package handler accountable, you could cut the amount of damaged goods by 80%...at least! Hope all works out for you. Truly sorry. I know it's not comforting to hear at this point...but cracks and all, you will still have a great guitar!

The seller responded quickly and is willing to make a claim on the insurance. He said he would check his pics for the small finish cracks but did not remember any and was adamant that there was not a crack of that severity when he packed it up. The shipping carton was an original SCGC guitar box and the guitar was packaged very well with bubble wrap. It does not show any signs of even moderate abouse/damage. He is the original owner and said he would check if the warranty still applied to the guitar as his or if it is transferable. I would be surprised if the warranty transferred but when does the warranty stop covering the original owner, upon close of the sale or receipt of the guitar? So it looks like it will all work out, it will just require more patience.

The warranty wouldn't cover the crack anyway. Have the seller make the claim and see what happens. Good deal nonetheless. Hopefully you will get something on the insurance claim. For about $300 you can have the factory fix the cracks and re-finish the top. Then you'll have a "like new" 1537.

INSIST that the guitar was damaged from being mishandled even though the box was clearly marked "Fragile." Send the guitar back to the factory for a written estimate for repair. You need to email Kim Keller (kkeller-kmc@kaman.com) for return authorization and insructions. Tell Kim that the guitar was damaged during shipping. Don't settle with FedEx until you send them the written estimate. Then demand the FULL repair cost and see what happens.Does anyone know if Fedex insurance covers damage due to cold or is it only for obvious package/handling damage?
